Not said lightly but I think Dieng is going to be better than Smithies for us.

Love Smithers to bits but Dieng makes up for any potential technical inadequacies that he may still be developing with his terrifying physical presence.

When he comes out to claim it's like he's one and a half sizes bigger than everyone else.

We'll see I know.

Would be nice to think he could develop into a keeper like that without a doubt
Early days but the lad does seem to have something about him and even after 2 games it seems that defence is a lot more settled, which a decent keeper will do
The only mystery is why as it taken this long for Warbs to realise that out of the 3 he is by far the best

Caution, always caution.
We haven't seen anywhere near enough yet to make a judgement.
3 games, 2 of which were behind a sturdier and deeper defence than Lumley or Kelly ever got.
But, like others, I'm impressed so far.

Couldn’t agree more Brian

Can we just wait before we annoint him the messiah?

He hasn’t really done much and he’s only played 2 games. Promising signs, but I rly don’t see how anyone could make this assessment after 2 games

How is he going to recover after he makes a few mistakes? How is he going to cope with the inevitable social media media abuse? Can he cope w sarcastic fans cheering him at loftus road or abuse away from home? Can he handle the mental grind of a full season?

Just let the kid develop on his own ....

Cant see where anyone has called him the messiah.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Agree with caution. What we've seen so far looks good with this kid. Strangely he doesn't look as tall as he actually is, 6 foot 3 I believe. He looks a lot smaller but he's very quick around his area and his positioning seems to be pretty good. He also seems to do exactly what you want a keeper to do and just barge through players to punch the ball clear when needed. Encouraging early signs. As you say he is playing with a defence that seems a little bit better so hard to judge and of course the first mistake he makes will be pounced upon and we'll have to buy another 10 keepers.

Never knowingly right.

26 in November so not the youngest, even for a GK. All three are a similar age but Dieng is the oldest by a couple of months.

Think we are all just crying out for a keeper that is more of an all rounder than Kelly and Lumley. Dieng is better than Lumley with his feet, more presence that Kelly and more commanding of his box than both of them.

Goalkeepers always judged on mistakes and responses to them so will be interesting to see Dieng in that situation. Quite evident that mistakes really impacted on Lumley and he never really recovered from some of them.

Good to see Dieng doing well and I have more hope than him filling the Smithies void than the other two.

Are keepers still allowed to barge through players these days? Don't really see it much anymore.

Anyone remember big Phil Parkes treating the opposition like skittles when he came out to deal with a cross?

Anyway, Dieng has looked solid so far but it is early days. Let's hope he proves to be what we need.

I don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, but I think he's definitely going to be the best goalkeeper ever.

I am still Steve but no longer in Dagenham.

To be honest, I don't know why we constrain him to playing in goal. I think he should also get 20 minutes a game at No 10 if we need an impact, and we should use him in defensive midfield to protect the back four. Also, he should be Director of Football. And the next US president.

Good post, Dixie. Agree.

He looks more aggressive to me. When he comes to punch it, he makes sure he gets there and properly punches it. He can’t be the broadest keeper, build wise, because, like Bosh, he doesn’t look a 6’3’’ bloke. Presumably just lean.

But so far good signs. That save in the second half from the volley is being underestimated, IMO. It was hit like a bullet from 10 yards and it wasn’t at him. Yes, I expect a good keeper to save it, but in recent form I wouldn’t be too confident that Lumley would. And I’m sure neither Lumley or Kelly would have been as strong at dealing with crosses as Dieng has been the last two games.

As others say, it’s early days. How he’ll cope under greater pressure, after a few errors, etc, we don’t know. But the lad has played quite a bit of league football now at Dundee and Doncaster. He’s not a child, and on current form is clearly the right pick; he certainly seems the most confident, which can only help the back 4.

Good luck to him.

The only thing so far is his insistence on playing deadly passes to our own men under intense pressure. He needs to cut that out immediately, preferably before it costs us. There's playing out from the back and then there's suicide.

Stopped one yesterday that i felt would probably have beaten Joe. The sort of stop Smithies made look routine.
