In all departments Rubbish ref booked Cameron then let go an identical tackle 2mins later missed a definite handball from a corner. Derby played it right stopped Rs playing. Very disappointed today after the previous 2 games

The game was lost in midfield again. Willock didn't seem to know his role at all. And if you're playing 3 at the back the wing backs need to get high early to stretch the play which they didn't do. And you need to move the ball quickly which again we didn't do.
You could hear that Willock was constantly being told where to go and what to do.
I thought Kane was all right, pretty secure defensively. Think he's being called out for past sins. Niko is definitely a work in progress.

I thought Kane and Nico had differing games. Kane still miss hits too many crosses for a team that wants to play the way we do but he had a steady game today imho. Quite neat and times, possibly gaining a bit of confidence. Nothing earth shattering but was encouraging compared to some games recently.
Nico had a bit of a mare. Nothing worked and he was quite successfully targeted throughout the game.
Kane takes up such good positions to cross pity all he does is slam it as hard as he can into the nearest defender Nico was awful today but to be fair he wasn't helped out much by Chair who kept tucking inside so there was no out ball down the line

I'm not sure in a game like yesterday you can risk playing Willock in that position. Sure play him there when we're safe and try it but that was a real must not lose game and, yes we lost it.

agreed, I would move Chair deeper right now. Not literally right now, if you see what i mean.

Chair infuriated me yesterday by keep taking an extra touch and trying to cut in. The last minute of extra time was a perfect example. We needed to score, so deliver the ball and try and create an opportunity, but no instead he took extra touches and the game was up.
Pretty sure that was the vibe I picked up from Warbs post match interview. He said the strikers were making runs, but we failed to deliver decent crosses

Outthought, outfought and so many players had off days.

Outthought probably. Rosenior (doubt Rooney has the mental capacity) putting an extra man in midfield made perfect sense and as ever we didn’t and perhaps couldn’t react.
Wouldn’t say we were outfought. Bielik was the best midfielder on the pitch but that’s what you get for silly money when FFP is a minor inconvenience. Ball and Dickie were combative as ever. Captain MAGA as meh as ever. Really very little difference between this and the last two games. Get ahead and it becomes much easier.

It's McClaren, probably.
Fine margins.
We get that pen and it's a different game.

IMO . They were better than us in defence, and midfield so we could not get behind them. Apart from Barbet magnificent overhead kick we never look like scoring. The first 25mins we rarely had the ball. After Derby scored they just closed the game down, we had no answer.
Can't agree there.
Seny (apart from the one preceding the goal) didn't have a save to make and think we got in their penalty area much more than they got in ours.
Think Clive summed it up perfectly in his preview - very much like our preceding half a dozen league games, could have easily been the other two results than the one it was.

I can't think of any other season since the turn of this century when so many of our games have been decided on fine margins. Virtually every game we've won could have ended up a draw/defeat and vice-versa applies to most of the games we've lost. In other seasons there are usually lots of games we've dominated or been battered, but hardly any since September.
We could have easily won against all of the top 6, except perhaps Swansea, if key moments had gone our way;
The BOS miss against Norwich Penalties not given against Watford Non sending-off against Brentford Chair hitting inside of the post before Reading scored Bonne's misses against Bournemouth
We just need to find those small marginal gains or benefit from the bit of luck that convert defeats into draws and draws into wins, then we should be fine.

I agree. That's why it's we can't get too excited when we win and think we've turned a corner or too devastated when we lose. Quite often there's not much between the performances (Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe being notable exceptions) when we win or lose. Maybe we just notice the flaws more when we loses. Derby weren't great yesterday, although better than their home game, but were a bit more pragmatic and got the breaks.

Agreed,
Which makes the final days of the transfer window crucial. A couple of good signings would have real benefits.

We just wasn't 'at the races' yesterday....you can talk about individual performances, referees, formations, passing, chances where we should have scored, the subs that came on did not do well, basically everything did not go well yesterday.
Real shame because we have had a few very decent results in the league of late. These things happen and it doesn't get a lot harder than I next game at Watford although we do have a few days break, rest and training which should help.
Onwards & upwards to that 10th position in the league.
