Owls want Shodipo on loan 10:32 - Jul 10 with 5825 viewsQPRSteve

Didn't realise he is 24. Wouldn't it make more sense to sell rather than loan him out for another season?

I guess if our coaches think there is still more potential its worth keeping him to see if he can progress further and find proper consistency, oxford friends of mine said he shined occasionally but more often than not didnt quite contribute enough to the team

He did well at Oxford. Think he also played left wing back for us in the Pompey friendly. If he can do the defensive part of that role adequately, he certainly has enough pace and skill to do a job for us as a wing back, and save us spending bringing someone like Cox in. Currently, we only have Albert as a player of Shodipo's ilk.

In the Pompey friendly last week he assisted the first goal, then won and scored a penalty. He's shown potential in the past but never seemed to push on. He's in the final year of his contract so it'll be now or never for him at QPR.

Perhaps he should be given until the end of the year, though others are ahead of him so he'd have to impress when coming off the bench.

Can’t see the point of a season long loan, if it goes well for him he walks away free at the end of next season as that’s when his contract runs out.
Either keep him here or just move him on now.

If he’s not going to play then best option is to loan him out, 2 grand a week is another 100k in the kitty. Pay his contract up and we are the losers.

Or just let him go for free, he’s then able to negotiate perhaps a longer deal that’s better for him?

Let's face it if he's going on another season long loan he's finished here.

I'd like to see him get a chance between at least now and the end of the year but I am guessing with the players we have he may struggle to make the squad. Still worth seeing if he has learnt enough to gain a place.

Never knowingly right.

'Absolutely not, too often goes missing and has very little impact on the game, also doesn't provide enough for others in the team which becomes an obvious problem when his scoring dries up. I think we can do better'. That is a quote from the Oxford fan site on whether they should get Shopido back.

How many subs are we using in the Championship this coming season?

If it's five it might be a useful option to have a pacey winger on the bench. There will/might be occasions when we want to change formation/and or tactics to chase a game. We have a got B team slots to fill to keep fringe players match fit.

Reading between the lines and from my memory of him, his main issue is his lack of wholehearted commitment to the cause in terms of tracking back, closing down space and trying to win back the ball. I don't think that would be Warb's type of player.

If someone else wants him, it's probably best if he moves on.

This would have applied to Smyth too - similarly clearly something to him but lacking in all-round game - but MW wasn't interested there either, even despite suggesting that replacing Bright's pace would be something they'd be looking at. (Shodipo is more of a cut-inside forward than a touchline winger in fairness.)

Waiving a meaningful transfer fee for securing a healthy sell-on percentage in case he does flourish would be the best option for the club now you'd think, but again they didn't press it for Smyth (or maybe more likely concrete interest wasn't there and/or clubs were prepared to wait it out).

Personally would certainly rather we tried to make the best of Mide than spend any kind of money on Josh Windass, if that's a thing.

There’s no letting him go for free, he’d want his contract paid up.

We could waive any transfer fee allowing him to negotiate a longer contract with Sheff. Weds. which would suit all parties.
I agree with Nix, if we don’t want him let him move on.

Richard Paquette, Dominic Shimmin and the other kid that came from Arsenal, Angelo Balanta, now Mide Shodipo.

We may slag off players when they're signed, but once here we are a graciously accommodating bunch, interminably grasping at the shreds of hope that a player will come good against all the weight of the evidence that says otherwise.

Shodipo has never been good enough, never will be good enough and he needs to be released however and whatever the best option is for QPR.

Smyth was just too small to be effective on anything more than a very occasional basis. Probably a better finisher though, when he got the chance.

Shodipo, Warburton spoke highly of him at the beginning of his tenure. I think he is a cut in type if used on the left but a touchline winger on the right. Would probably be better than Smyth if used as a wing back as well. Has a bit of strength as well as pace. Was a bit of a non entity in the post first lockdown games but the team performed poorly then too.

Pre season is for him the last chance to show he is worth keeping around. Don't want him blocking a squad place for a more promising younger player though.

Smyth is the same height as Messi and five inches taller than Chair, so it can't be his size.

Wow, you would like him to have yet another pre-season!!!!

If true. Transfer market have him at 5ft 7 wiki has him at 5ft 9. He always looked small and lacking in strength. When he tried to make up for it he nearly always gave away a free kick.
