Cricket 2022 on 09:34 - Apr 1 by thame_hoops | Middlesex member here, can’t wait for a weeks time when the season starts, I’ll be at lords next Thursday and Friday RE hundred, I got tickets for all the Lords games last year, because as a Middlesex member we were offered them for 10 or £15. One was washed out, one game was not competitive and I skipped the last two and got refunds (I said I was self- isolating) I swore not to buy tickets this year… however, fear of missing out made me buy a couple, especially when I saw the London spirit had the first pick, in the draft. Hoping to see Mitchell Marsh or barbar azam. I also want to spend some balmy August nights at HQ, and this is the only way to do so It does make me laugh seeing the social media comments by parents saying what a great time they had and how it was great to take the kids. Have they not heard of T-20? also, with the doubleheaders, it makes it a really long day, so much longer than t20. The Royal London cup has been relegated again to a second rate competition. Middlesex play all the games at Radlett, not lords. Because of the hundred. Why oh why the ECB didn’t develop the T-20 blast into something bigger, brighter, more accessible to families, more so than it already is? [Post edited 1 Apr 2022 10:37]

Do you know why they use Radlett when it is in Hertfordshire? I see they don't seem to use Uxbridge any more.

They stopped playing at Southgate too and Richmond. Last Uxbridge game was a t20 in 2019. I loved Uxbridge as its closer to me . Their goal is to find a permanent 2nd home rather than being nomads when lords is being used. Merchant Taylors school seems to be a place they have been playing in recent years too. Not sure why they chose Radlett, it’s awkward to get to, seating is poor and so are the facilities. However, this year they have promised temporary tiered seating stands.

"Why oh why the ECB didn’t develop the T-20 blast into something bigger, brighter, more accessible to families, more so than it already is?" Again, fully agree with this. However, as someone has said above, The Hundred is Tom Harrison's vanity project. Nothing more, nothing less. That's the only reason why they didn't do what seems obvious to pretty much everyone else (revamp T20 (if that was even necessary anyway??!!)). That wnker Harrison is single handedly ruining English cricket, and will take down Test match cricket globally once and for all if England supporters stop attending because the team is so poor (the team being so poor because of what that wnker Harrison has done and continues to do). Wait 'til Test Matches stop selling out in an English Summer (which they will do the way things are heading with the team), then the ECB will finally realise what a fcuk up they have made when it's hitting their coffers in a big way. Sadly, it'll be too late then though because the irreparable damage will have been done. A sorry state of affairs which needs sorting THIS YEAR, starting with Harrison out ASAP, a new coach focussed solely on Test Match cricket, and then sorting out the County Championship scheduling (and a look at the international schedule to cut it down somewhat would also be a good idea - have a look at winter 2022/23 schedule. It's absolutely nuts) [Post edited 1 Apr 2022 11:32]

I went to Richmond a few times and enjoyed it until they cottoned on that the timings were bad and moved it to a weekend and then it was rammed. Shame about Southgate as I know live round the corner.

The last time they played at Southgate, I recall the changing rooms were broken into and players having loads of stuff stolen. I think the club denied that was the reason why they stopped playing games there, it probably didn’t help. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I might be wrong but I think Radlett was historically in Middlesex and was transferred to Hertfordshire in 1965 when the big local government reorganisation (creation of the GLC and the London boroughs etc) happened.

An irony of The 100 is that an innings can take as long as a T20 innings, partly due to all the decisions about who bowls the next over (given that a bowler can bowl two consecutively). I feel that The 100 is an artificial construct which has been marketed as something different whereas the differences are minimal, unnecessary and counterproductive and the real driver is money, franchising and broadcasting opportunities. Coming soon: The Beer Match league. Ten overs a side, normal batting order reversed. You heard it here first

His only valid argument for it wasn't conceptual, but that lots of people were at cricket for the first time and had loved it. I took my then seven-year-old son to T20 when it started, and it had already become an after-work piss-up ritual. I was sworn at for asking people to sit down during play and maybe tone down the obscene chanting a bit. He hated it and we never went back. Perhaps another generation of parents and kids has been grateful for the behaviour reset, though there is no reason why it has to be 100 balls an innings rather than 120.

Nothing but gimmicks what the f*** was wrong with the The Blast just advertise it properly add a few more stars and it can be a match for Big Bash(Not gonna match the IPL too much money) Thanks to the Hundred I will have to trek to Radlett to see Middlesex with their usual Blast Implosion this season

Can't go to loads of Championship because of work so mainly the T20s of an evening. Hate the fact the One Day cup has been shunned to midweek and crammed in so they can play the 100, an unnecessary competition. England are literally the World Champions at the format and the Women are in the final (current holders too). So disrespectful. The oval regularly sells out the Blast, even less of a need for The 100. I haven't been to a 100 game yet and don't plan on it anytime soon.

Great post. The fan etiquette has gone completely at t20, I noticed this early on. People leaving their seats during an over never used to happen. At lords the stewards stop people from going to their seats during the over but it doesn’t stop people getting up. I was also surprised at the noise levels too and the amount of people not actually watching the cricket

We live down the road from Radlett so it's handy for us - went three times for the T20 last season which was really nice. View on the whole was fine, although tiered seating this season will help if they do put it in. Plan to take our boys so better viewing angles will be useful for them!

Unless you got there early and front row it was hard to watch as the ground slopes back. People ended up standing !. At the recent members forum they promised to A-cut the grass in the car park 😄 and B- tiered seating
