Gray, Field, Moses?

I'd give it to Gray just because he won the pen, had the kahunas to take it, and dispatched it beautifully. Got us back in the game and without that we'd have been looking at a defeat. Plus I thought he led the line really well.

I'd go for Field closely followed by the assistant referee. However, Moses and Gray also deserve praise.

I thought Gray was the stand out. Won the penalty and finished it with aplomb. Also got into good positions throughout including the first half when Chair made an excellent run and left foot cross. Gray was heading for the near post and would probably have scored if it hadn't been cut out by the defender.

Apparently Gray touched the ball 18 times in that game. EIGHTEEN and I suspect that, apart from that superb run for the pen, I doubt he touched it more than twice on the trot.

Yes, that got us back into the game and yes, he WAS better than previous games, but my god, how low has his bar been?

Field held that "midfield" of ours together in the first half. Hendrick absolutely anonymous, JoJo absent without leave.

Moses worthy of a shout and Wallace was better than recent weeks, but surely you couldn't look past Field, who is making a late run for Player of the Season in my view.

I see you gave it to Gray- a very tabloid / Sky award I think. He was poor.

All opinions I guess...

Can we go out yet?

1. Field - 7
2. Gray - 7
3. Moses - 7

But wouldn't argue with any of the three.

Overall Field for me. Mention to Gray who basically on his own got us back in the game out of nothing.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Does anyone know what Moses pass completion percentage is?
Admit he works hard and has good physicality, but my perception is that he gives the ball away far too often.

I thought the passing completion from everybody wasn’t great and even Chair was unusually sloppy. Our tactic of going long to overcome the press rarely gave us any advantage and just came straight back, pretty much pinning us in our own half. I hope it’s not a strategy that we intend to use often.

According to SofaScore his accuracy is 77% per match and 84% in his own half, so pretty good. Although lower in this match 68% overall. But this compares favourably with Lee Wallace who only had 59% accuracy in this match, where his usual accuracy is 80%, so Moses actually looks pretty okay. Albert, although he clearly makes more chances, actually has a lower pass completion, only 64%, and loses possession on average more than Moses.

But that is because Albert goes forward and attempts crosses (often incomplete passes) rather than cuts back inside and passes it backwards.

We have to be very wary of pass completion %s. The direction of passes: forward vs backwards vs sideways, is important to work out who is taking no risks and shirking responsibility of trying to create a goal. Equally % of FORWARD passes completed would be a much more interesting but basic stat for the central midfielders, wing backs and the no. 10s.

Yes that's a very good point Hunter. Some of our players are much more cautious. Albert is certainly much more forward focused.

I wouldn't think Moses was one of our worse offenders with the back/side pass but I don't know for sure, and happy to hear others' views. But I do think it shows he's not especially profligate with possession, which was the original question.

I would also consider the distance of the pass - as Hunter suggested about Albert attempting more cross’s - from memory Moses does more shorter passes in tight spaces, though technically these might be sideways and backwards they’re not going back to keeper.

Also, I've noticed two things he does - not necessarily well - 1: He often tries to beat the man in front of him and is often loses the ball. 2: He often passes into space with nobody on the other end

I think Grey is pretty decent. I seem to be in the minority who rate him. Generally a really good finisher. I agree he is in and out but I think his past possibly shapes people's opinion of him. Dykes is also in and out of form and I know he has got a lot of criticism but I think Grey is a better finisher in general. He has more of the Wells style of finishing about him. Dykes has only been involved in 22 games this season so far. The continual injuries are a concern so I reckon we are quite lucky to have Grey.

Never knowingly right.
