For me the three greatest male singers are Marvin, Smokey, and the great Al Green. Marvin had the best LPs. Smokey had some of the best singles. While Al Green had the best moments in a song and by a shade had the best voice. If any of that makes sense.

It does. Jesus Is Waiting is simply one of the most blissful tracks i've heard in my 57 years.
Got Al green on my I-Pod thing, everything Is debatable of course but for me Ray Charles is my favourite but yes Al Green has some voice on him he sure can hit the high's and lows almost effortlessly, I've also got the brilliant Little Richard on me I-Pod thing, he's another one with an awesome voice, John Lee Hooker had the best bass voice in the business listen to 'No Shoes' by the Hook on YouTube.
But today in the car It was The Doors blaring out "L.A. Woman". (Brilliant just brilliant)
My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Otis for me. Wrote two of the greatest soul records of all time in Respect and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. To be fair Eric Burden wasnt too shady in the finale.

Yes, Danny. Hathaway is another beauty. I played 'Extension of a man' to death back in the day and it's such an underrated album.
Agree with the big ups for Otis Redding too.
And John Martyn, who once picked up my guitar, re-tuned it and played a few things. I couldn't work out what he'd done to the thing after he handed it back.
Terry Reid - the man wanted by both Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. With the lovely Linda Lewis thrown in for good measure. How he remains relatively unknown is beyond me.

if you add John Holt and Dennis Brown to that list, I'm pretty sure you'd have a strong top 5
