I am sat here watching Jeremy Hunt murdering the plebs whilst pretending to punish energy companies. I suggest you all watch just to see and understand what tyranny truly is and it’s here to stay. Revolution?

For many years (and here's a football analogy on a football forum!) it's felt to me over the last few decades that PL player salaries are talked about like it was confetti. We have got so used to and numbed by the vast & insane figures.
Same with the government, they talk about billions as though it's nothing.

Here's a gauge;

A million seconds is 11 1/2 days
A billion* seconds is 31 1/2 years

A billion (be it seconds or £'s) is fking huge.

*a billion being 1,000 million

£150000 down to £125140. But then when Labour win the next GE it will be all milk and honey. But seriously it really is difficult to understand how the Tory’s failed to predict the pandemic and war in Europe in their 2019 manifesto

We binned off our pandemic preparations for Brexit preparations. Not the best call. But they did their best.

if the system keeps fking over the young and putting pensions up by 10% a year we are looking at some serious reprisals in years to come. I say that as someone nearer a pension than my 20s.

I'm a pensioner & I can't understand this!

Of course I will be happy to accept the increase & some of my age will desperately need it, but I'm better off financially since retirement than I've ever been! Income approx the same with no NIC contributions or mortgage payments to make.

Why should I be given 10% while my son (civil servant) has to put up with 2 & a 1/2%?

I have been against means testing all my life (on priniple), but I wouldn't argue against my increase being lower than other pensioners receive.

The state pension is one of the lowest of all developed countries. Of course company pensions can be decent if you've paid enough in over the years.
Means testing is expensive to implement I'm told.
Pensioners on pension credit are receiving extra.
I'm no economist but am aware of the pressures various groups are under and it does seem younger folk are getting the thin edge of the wedge.

Simply, twelve years of this lot in charge has led to this. Of course there has been the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. But Brexit? Truss? Austerity? PPE fiasco? Track and Trace farce? Care home scandal? The list is endless, incompetence and corruption have shamed their time in office. Any attempt at defending this sh1tshow is laughable.

Spot on.

I'll just add laziness under Johnson's leadership to your list. Has a lazier and more self-entitled person ever worked in politics, let alone in the top job?

That said, his naked corruption was the biggest issue as it permeated everything and still does.

Suffering since 1978.

Of course no one could predict it, covid mainly as Ukraine has been brewing for a while, but it's how it was dealt with that's important and the government wasted £billions and £billions which we will pay for over the years to come.
And before anyone says the whataboutery, no, I don't know if anyone else could have done it better but 'anyone else' wasn't in charge, the current government were and that's all that matters and they, like any government, are judged by what they do.

I wonder how many people have become millionaires over the last 12 years, and how many millionaires have become billionaires?
That is the disgraceful record that the tories have left this country with during their time in office.Children die because of mould in their homes and millions of working people are forced to use food banks because they can’t afford to feed their families. It wasn’t even this bad under Thatcher.
God help us all.

Hate to tell you this but a pandemic was predicted, in 2016, as the most likely event to damage the UK. See Cygnus report.

They didn't know the exact details of the type of pandemic but the could have learned from the SARS outbreak in SE Asia.

Govt did nothing and then were shocked they didnt have PPE, hospital beds, vaccines or Abny sort of plan.

Pensioners will get a 10.1% increase for 2 reasons.
It was a manifesto pledge in 2019.
Pensioners tend to vote, and tend to vote Tory.

Big Bang was two things;

A) The abolition of fixed commissions on Stock Exchange trades.
B) stockbrokers were no longer required to be partnerships and third party (corporate) ownership was allowed.

Think that’s due to Long Covid.

And the record waiting list for operations...

It was a manifesto pledge not to increase NIC as well, but that was soon broken.

Do Pensioners tend to vote Conservative? I would sugest that more over 65's (or whatever the age now is) were likely to join a Trade Union than is ever the case now.

This would have been partly due to Closed Shops, but also due to the radicalism of out youth & a believe in equality. It wasn't our generation that supported Thatcher & Regan. Or Blair or Johnson for that matter.

Unfortunately I don't think hunt had a lot of options. Truss and kwarteng showed what happens when you veer too far from economic orthodoxy. Labour will surely win the next election, but I don't think they will be able to do anything differently. We have over borrowed and cuts and tax rises are the only options.

I really don't know a lot about economics but surely the government can never say they haven't got enough money.
By being careful not to cause more inflation surely just print (create) more money and spend it on wages for the NHS etc and not on physical things/industry.
Can we do that or not really?

23 percent fuel duty hike in the small print. Wonder why Hunt didn't mention that in his speech. From March next year.

And if the Tories had not honoured the triple lock do you think Starmer would have publicly said it was necessary to do so. Or do you think he would have criticised the decision

In the eighties, I wrote to the Times expressing my concern that the crop of people graduating from university was of a low standard, and given that these people would one day be running the country, measures should be taken to address the problem before it became too late.
They didn't print my letter - now look what's happened.

I think there probably was a plan, but it was either ignored, changed or not implemented properly. In 2019, the Global Health Security Index rated us the second best prepared country in the world:
