James Bell (Referee) on 00:32 - Aug 27 by wombat | Well him and his lineman wa in the pub pre match today sat on the next table to us in the pitcher and piano which explains a lot after his performance today , |
As well as all the points made above, AR on our left couldn't make any throw in decision without looking at the ref first. A number of times neither could decide so it was, we'll give it to the home team. Completely inept performance, with a huge weakness for being influenced by the crowd and the antics of Russell Martin on the touchline. Mr Bell(end) will be competing with the serial winner of the Keith Stroud refereeing award.

James Bell (Referee) on 12:18 - Aug 27 with 1094 views | DejR_vu | Is this not, in part, because we concede so much possession? If we have 25% possession, we’re defending for three times as long as they are. You don’t make challenges/ commit fouls when you have three ball, you generally do those things when you don’t. So, we’re statistically, giving the ref 3x the opportunity to blow against us, and that’s without the subjective stuff, fatigue brought about by the constant defending etc. Equally, with the ball we’re giving him far less opportunity to give us anything because we barely have it. Don’t get me wrong, I think the standard of referring in the Championship is embarrassing, but we’re not doing a great deal to influence things in our favour.

James Bell (Referee) on 12:48 - Aug 27 with 1052 views | Hooping_Mad | 10 minutes in I realised the ref was going coward his way through the match. They put 2 players on Armstrong and took it in turns to foul him, it got to him and the ref did nothing to encourage the 2 soton defenders to think twice. Left us a man over for the entire match which make me a bit peeved that we still lost it. A lesson in the dark arts would be very useful, Helgusson used to go about his work quietly and efficiently.

Martin had exactly the same tactics against Chris Willock when he was Swansea manager. The ref didn't protect him then either.

They’re fine. Far too much hysteria about refs on this site (and everywhere). Just get on with it.

James Bell (Referee) on 18:23 - Aug 26 by vanrrrr | Highlight at the end was Cookie smashing the ball at him ( shame he missed) …. Worth the yellow |
...and why did he do that? Simple, End of the first half, Bell(end) waits until the Saints attack peters out as the ball drifts into ABs arms, then blows up even though the 6 minutes were done before the Saints player delivered their cross. BUT, at the end of the second half he blows up before QPR can put their last launch into the area. Bang on the 8 minutes despite the 1-2 minutes of delay during those 8 minutes from Saints "game management". As others have said, NOT the reason we lost, but inconsistency is the worst aspect of these refs. At least he ignored both handball shouts when the ball hit players' arms in their respective penalty areas.

I often don't notice refs that much which is fine But the dubious decisions all went the way of the home side with this ref. Was extremely poor performance by him. [Post edited 27 Aug 2023 14:34]
