My team tonight :

Hamer

RND JCS Cook Dunne

Edwards Varane

Kolli Vale Smyth

Kone

60 minutes subs (Mbengue for JCS with Dunne moving to CB)
Other definite sub for me, if miraclously he is on the bench (Poku 75 minutes)

Other subs - match dependent

The team, i expect:

Walsh

RND Edwards Dunne Mbengue

Hayden Varane Morgan

Saito Vale

Kone

First team 2 - 2 result....

Second team 3-1 or 4-1 defeat !!!

Kone really does need a rest imo but the options are so limited

Surely we must have some youngster in the Development squad who can run around a bit !

Been banging on about getting to 50 points, then giving some who need a break a rest, and playing the pups with the pressure off to see what they've got.

After Hull away, that opportunity looked imminent, now getting those extra three points isn't such a gimme!

We bought in Obikwu for that role, but got injured in his very first training session and despite being ourselves told it was a minor injury, six weeks later, no sign.

There is Bennie or indeed Kolli, both not number nines for me though, but beyond that, you are throwing on not much more than a very decent player in his school days.

However, lots being drawn for when not if Kone picks up his long term injury issue.

Ignore previous positivity - I thought we were at home!

Update: We're doomed.

I think the best we can hope for is an anti-football, attritional 0-0

They have to Cook back in there and I would drop Varane and stick Ronnie in midfield. Play Smyth instead of Koki as well. If Kolli is available, use him to give Kone a rest on 60 mins.

Varane was one of our best players on Sunday. Bar one awful pass he was as solid as be. He and Edwards were the only ones who could walk off that pitch with their heads held high.
They will target our right, as Middlesborough did, as did Saints. Virtually all goals coming from that side in both games. Mbengue (who I really like) is definitely not a full back. Complacent against players who are quick and looking to play balls around the full backs. + if he goes up the pitch and looses it he seems to think it's acceptable to jog back without urgency for the counter. He also gets isolated as Vale just hasn't got a clue how to defend/cover, he's simply not been coached it up until now.

Poku in the squad according to WLS. Surely BMX Ben, our army of analysts, assorted performance gurus, and our WHO team, have got him back to tip-top shape. Shirley?

Clearly watched a different game to me.

Varane pass completion was dreadful and watch him just jog back/lose his man for two of the goals we conceded.

He was not good.

You clearly missed all the challenges in and around our box in the first half. He completely muscled players off the ball and carried it away at least 3 times in the first half when others were watching on.

Feel free to keep to the ill informed narrative that he’s no good though

Getting involved in your debate Golborne and theChef

My view about Varane against Boro.

First half, he was very involved, often winning the ball and pressurising plays well and disrupting their play. He was way more noticeable than Hayden who played the friendly ghost role, last perfected by Andre Dozzell.

Second half, he was less present, but still attempted way more challenges than the supposed way more experienced Hayden.

Varane, however, i also do agree when he was in possession, the usual default pass backwards, when sometimes the forward movement wasnt that difficult too. And his passing on a few occasions was woeful, but as a team member, i have him ahead of Hayden in the team.

And i hope he can improve.Think myself he could end up being a decent servant for our club.

At this stage, I’d prefer a Savant that can provide us with opportunities like Rainman could.

Maybe that was my favorite player, Rainman Burrell….who's not always available.

Varane won 2 out of his 3 tackles. Hayden won 2 of 4. By comparison Edwards won both his tackles.
Passing accuracy was 64.1% Varane and 68% Hayden.

Neither were outstanding

It would also indicate that our midfield was more or less ‘by-passed’ if all we managed was a total of 7 attempted tackles and only 4 took place.

We probably made more successful passes directly into touch than made tackles !!!

If I was long term injured, I’m not sure I’d really want to come back in to this set up before the end of the season….expecting Poku will cramp up on Daves Coaches or get injured in the ‘walking’ warm up.

It is a bit sad with the demise of our club over the last few decades that heated debates about bang average players earning a decent living are relevant.

Still not as bad as some of the players we had when relegated to league 1.

Looks like a 3 at the back tonight with Ronnie in midfield maybe . Smyth or saito at LWB? Im glad Cook is back in. It looks like a side Marti might've picked.

This made me chuckle .

Poku’s turn to take up a seat on the bench with JS having no intention of bringing him on.

I'm thinking JCS perhaps at left back? Difficult to tell. Whatever the result I'm glad Cook is back in the starting line up. Edwards in midfield I'm guessing. Poku at least on the bench.

Come on Rangers. Please don't get battered again.

Never knowingly right.

Ah okay. Bit of a risk putting him out there with the running thats involved at FB. Odds on him shattering into thousand pieces on his first recovery sprint?

JCS at left back? Edwards midfield?

I reckon JCS at left back, Ronnie in midfield too, 4-4-2...or at least 4-4-1-1
