Bristol City Reflection 14:43 - Apr 11 with 18504 viewsbluenwhite10

A really dire game today and probably the worse game I have watched in a long time.

The referee had a go at making interesting with some bizarre petty decisions.

Strange call to bring on Bennie, not sure what value he was going to add.

Crossing practice 1st thing for training on Monday as that was really poor today.

MOM Ronnie gets better every week.

But that is exactly why England were sh*t under Roy and continue to be sh*t under Tuchel - because of the pointless passing it across the back four while the opposition organise themselves to mark the other 6 outfield players. And that is why you need to play players who can play in all positions and then, like Spain and Man City, get the full backs playing passing football on the edge of the opposition's box.

I don't really buy the players not being good enough argument either (at international or Championship level).

We said a few times yesterday it reminded us of watching Hodgson's England.

I agree with you James. You just aren’t going to get teams playing full pelt 46 games a season. Playing a couple of matches over Easter and then another few days until Saturday makes a difference. We looked so much livelier after the International break. If we did have Chair, Madsen, and a starting and fit Poku and Burrell to provide the extra skill to replace the energy I think we would have won that match but take all of the equivalents out of any team and it’s going to impact them.

My friend who has only come to three matches ever said how much older the Bristol team was compared to our team and she’s right. That extra couple of years of experience meant that they played the ref like a violin. We might not like it but that’s what happens in football and they got at least three or four free kicks they shouldn’t have done and got a couple of our players booked. I think it makes a difference as it breaks up momentum and means a couple of our players can’t put in a tackle just in case. Plus that experience meant they would have played on through one of our players being injured. Wrexham also showed how additional years of playing can be used to your advantage.

While I agree with Konk it made sense to play that way for City without key defenders I watched quite a few Palace games under Roy and I think that’s just who he is. I can’t stand that kind of style myself as it takes the joy out of the game for me but it’s certainly effective.

think sat was the only game for a while we missed chair , it was very run of the mill sort of football nothing inventive , even smith by his recent performances seemed off the pace , kolli did next to nothing as well. suppose we went for it late on with the subs but nothing really changed performance wise either.

True but I think IF everyone is fit, Chair starts for certain. We’re missing Madsen too. With a full energy game, we can get by without them. But in game like against Bristol, we need them more than ever.

I like Kolli but he’s not one to run around and press and run channels too much. That’s why Burrell has been big miss. Do need variety though. Think Kolli is brilliant finisher.

Watched the first half on TV then I to a wedding......it was absolutely shocking half of football. The players, nothing to do with off field people, should be ashamed of their performances. If there were 4 players who deserved their wages then that would be 'tops'. We should all be given our money back and the players given a good & proper 'roasting. Shameful!!

compared to recent games kolli was poor , think the only time i saw him bust a gut to close a player down was as the subs were warming up before then back to normal with lack of energy which is a shame for him as now burrell is back hes gonna be back to sub appearences prob.

who does chair replace though ? vale ? smith ?
both have contributed plenty recently so both hard to drop esp if we carry on with two up front ,

I thought the Stoke and Oxford away matches were the other ones where we missed someone with a bit of guile to break the deadlock. By then we’d lost Burrell and Poku and we only really had Madsen and occasionally Dembele to create anything. I think Vale must have been injured then too as he didn’t even feature from the bench.

Smyth works very hard both in defence and attcack so I’m not surprised he was a bit weary. Yet another match where injuries have affected us in terms of not having enough options to freshen up the squad.

I wish I could upvote this twice .

Sitting at home today watching what should be a great days football but it isn’t and I know it won’t be . So much feigning injury now after every tackle or encounter that it reminds me of the WWE .

And when the crowd is as quiet and bored as they were at LR yesterday for example , at every challenge or tackle you can here yelps and screams and cries of fake pain and it’s reached a point where I’m not sure I can cope with it anymore . It isn’t just that . There are so many things that ‘modern football’ throws up these days that infuriate me .

Passing the ball incessantly sideways thinking it’s ’the Done thing’ to just pass it around the back for long spells is the scourge of a game I want to love , I do love , but find myself questioning if this is really enjoyable anymore .
Ultimately it’s the fear of stepping out of what’s been regimented . The fear of trying something different in a game where it didn’t matter if it didn’t come off .
Players having the ‘entertainment for the fans’ coached out them. Another 2 fingers stuck up at the fans who are ultimately there to be entertained.
Proof of the pudding …the wonderful , unpredictable, erratic, exhilarating and brilliant Adel Taraabt in the end became a holding midfield player to become a regular at the top level .

As for the World Cup coming up ….it’s going to stink for so many reasons isn’t it ?

Apologies . Rant over

In WWE they have the "X signal" - that is if the ref crosses his arm in an X in front of him, it means that one of the wrestlers is legit hurt and that they need to do an "audible" (when they change the match on the fly based on something going wrong in the ring and can't exactly ask the writers on what to do).

I increasingly wonder if football has its own X sign
