Clearest black / red card in history of GAA but somehow Quaid managed to escape with a yellow beyond belief .If they did not want to send off the keeper a defender had to serve it for him at a minimum of 10 minutes.

Quaid is a superb keeper probably in line for an Allstar and a shoe-in for GK of the year. BUT he had to walk for that challenge as he denied Clare a clear goal- scoring opportunity. The were a couple of options open to the ref, the only one that WASN’T was the one he went for. He is very fortunate that the penalty was converted! Would Clare have won if Limerick were down to 14? Impossible to know, Limerick have that aura about them that Kilkenny had in their pomp. That sense of never being beaten, even when the odds are stacked against them. The intensity and pressure they applied on Clare in the last ten minutes, the Banner men just couldn’t live with and they made some really poor decisions which went against them. Quaid never tried to interfere with Duggan’s helmet and if a trip is deemed ‘dangerous to an opponent’ then there would be red cards in every game in every team sport. It was however, clearly a black card offence. Just watched the game and the panel afterwards both strongly agree with you Paddyhoops and I am adding my name also.The square ball is clear unlike hurling where the hurley can be way up in the air deflecting the ball in a much tougher call.
I know I am dying alone on this hill but the GAA umpires are so bad I cannot understand why there is not a team of officials like at the WC.
Square balls and "goals or non goals " are so simple to spot just do your job.
Hawkeye for balls miles over the bar but not for balls well over the goalline is criminal IMO.

Definitely a square ball but not convinced the whole of the ball was over the line for the Dublin goal. Fully agree though that should not be relying on the naked eye to make a split second decision when goal line technology is so easy to access. | | | |
