I avoided the main news generally now as hate watching the Orange Man Show which it has become.
But yes sadly all these nasty things happen all the time and everywhere, but I doubt its anymore prevalent than in years gone by.
We just hear about everything and anything nowadays.
But note to news editors - how about putting all the good things into news bulletins forevermore instead of the dark and the demonic...

Innocent bus drivers getting murdered, rapists getting a pat on the head and now police officers not believing that someone has been stabbed when he's literally dying. It's all so depressing. It was just a thought….we tend to think of a murder as the sort of thing on the BBC news “young man found stabbed outside flats in Lambeth”.
Those sad years when many fell victim to terror would have higher murder rates.

Ditto, if you were convicted of rape*, you'd expect to go to prison and were unlikely to be praised for your behaviour back then.

Also, that article is rather confusing - it says homicides have fallen to the lowest level since records began (2003) but includes a quote from the Home Secretary saying homicides are at their lowest level for 'almost 50 years'. It is the Grauniad though. [Post edited 3 Jun 2:53]

London has always felt 'aggy', even as I was growing up in the 70's & 80's around Portobello Road/Ladbroke Grove/Notting Hill etc . However, I always felt if anything was going to happen it would be at worst beaten up.
Now you're lucky if you don't get stabbed during an altercation. So, 'statistics' may be down but if something does happen nowadays it's likely to be serious.
A bit like car accidents and plane accidents. One you'll most likely survive, but the other you won't. Even if they said air travel is safer these days if something does happen, it's terminal. |  | | |
