"Earlier this year, Ifab decided against changing the law and invited leagues to volunteer for trials.
Pro Ref, led by chief refereeing officer Howard Webb, has been in discussions with the leagues to determine how to tackle the issue. It settled on a team having to remove an outfield player from the field.
If a referee signals that the physio can come on to treat a goalkeeper, the coach will have 10 seconds to nominate another player to leave the pitch for one minute, telling the fourth official of their choice.
If no player has been selected within 10 seconds, the captain must leave the field.
If clearance is received by the Ifab in time, the first game to feature the trial will be the Carabao Cup preliminary round tie between Tranmere and Rochdale on Saturday, 1 August."

In relation to outfield players, I still don't see why treatment isn't administered while play continues, as in rugby. If its serious then stop the game and I think we know when it is and when it isnt!

That works in rugby because they play to the clock.

I think it's a really good change. It's not rocket science, it doesn't solve all the games problems and it's easy to knit pick it.
However, it's a positive step and should close a big door that is too frequently opened to spoil tactics, that are ruining the game as a spectacle. |
What does it actually change? Keepers can still go down, just means they have to make a sub maybe the player furthest away from the bench who then runs to the other side of the pitch and is taken off again a minute or so later. Sounds like a farce to me.
Just stop your watch when they sit down and add the time on, it really shouldn't be that complicated

easy way to do this is as soon as the ball is placed for the corner the ball is live so any holding, pushing shoving can be given as a foul. | | | |

All players have to go straight to the centre circle the minute the ref lets the physio on to "treat" the keeper. The manager of the side whose keeper is receiving "treatment" has to go on all fours and is force fed serving spoons of dog shit until the game restarts. Two weeks of Alex Neil and Scott Parker being fed dog shit and we might see an end to the strange new phenomena of keepers getting cramp whenever their teams are under the cosh. Got to be worth a try? |

I don't want to nitpick but this isn't a change to the laws, it's just a trial.
IMHO the so called "biggest league in the world" isn't the place to be trying out whacky new ideas - even if it is trying to change something that everyone hates.
If you really want to stress test a new gamesmanship rule you should try it out on the experts. Give it to Argentinian football for a year and see how many ways they find to tear it apart. | | | |

Every time a captain or vice captain goes off another player has to be nominated with the officials being notified.

I hate the time-wasting and that includes moments when a goalkeeper is on his feet and has caught the ball cleanly, but decides to fall to the ground.
