Thanks Andy, brain over-heating like a Morris Minor on a summer motorway.

Am slightly concerned by relative lack of outgoings.

Lakarche (feel a bit sorry for him) and Esquire clearly now surplus.

Adamson too probably.

Morgan you feel needs a loan at least.

Plus one of Kolli (if not wanted), Lloyd and the Coventry ghost is surely surplus.

I thought we were more or less done with transfers but Nourry seems to be coming on hard and hot for more.

If we bring in yet further additions probably there will need to be even more departures. Otherwise aren't we creating an accountancy ticking time bomb, at least in the absence of a big sale?

12 out and 6 in at the moment, so maybe not such a problem.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Not sure if Smith should be listed here as realistically he probably would not have been a 1st team player, but since he was in the squad a few time last year, I've added him.

Added Pearman's move. While he is not a first team squad member, he has featured and is closer than most of the dev squad players getting a loan move to non-league clubs. A loan to a L2 club for a player who is/was likely to feature in the matchday squad at some point is significant enough to be mentioned.

May be wrong on this but, as it stands, I think we have an entire squad without a single promotion in one of them. Certainly not anything at this level.

Not sure if any team has ever defied that statistic, but it sounds like a major handicap to me.

Dennis Cirkin was promoted to the PL in 24/25 (and from L1 to Champ the year before).

Decent team of "leavers". Better than our team who lost to Plymouth in the cup last year:

Calum Ward is our most expensive signing, it seems.

Therefore, we have our marquee player on the bench :P

OK, I think I have every single transfer in the original post. Let me know if I missed anything.

Just looking at the numbers, we must have brought the wage bill down considerably. Could easily be about 100K a week nett result? Cook alone reportedly a big chunk of that.

Also very pleased that the players we have left are all players we think will play a part or can develop. We got rid of a lot of dead wood and players who have been hanging around for too long without breaking through.

And the outgoing loans all of the type we were hoping for those players.

Best of all, the incomings all look great and have made positive starts. None of those "need to settle" types, they all just hit the ground running. Maybe says a lot about the current squad as well.

On paper, this is for me the best transfer window in a very long time. Well done, QPR.

Thank you for doing this and the final update . A really informative and interesting post.
It appears to have been an excellent window. Trimming out deadwood or previously decent players being replaced by upgrades.
The youngsters have got loans to improve and toughen up with a number going to clubs only one tier down.
A lot has been said elsewhere about the signings, so just an overview opinion. We have bought in all the key areas fans said needed improvement.
Unless we suffer from our previous excess of injuries or complete collapses in confidence, the season ahead looks very promising.

I heard somewhere (Hoopsa pod maybe?) that we'd spent the second least of any Championship club this summer. Only Sheff Utd hsd spent less but that might have changed since then.

So, bugger all spent, 10 players out, 6 in and we take 7 from 9 points to start the season. I mean, we've had worse summers.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

Our net spending was negative. AFAIK the only fee was for Callum Ward, recouped by money received for Sam Field and Murphy Cooper.

If you turn the clock back 12-15 months, we spent on Kone, Burrell, Saito, Edwards and Obikwu. That's probably a different financial year, though.

The squad is looking in good nick and having seen some of the oppo so far, we should now be aiming to be right in the mix and probably top 6 by January. If that isn't the goal behind closed doors, with this squad and the state of the rest of the league.....

As Clive said they other day, if not now, when?

It is…but we amortise those historical transfer fees so an amount hits the financial year each year of their contracts. If, for a crude example, we spent £25m over a couple of seasons, and are giving out 4 year deals, we have £6m “hit” the accounts in transfer fees this season (and next), even if we haven’t signed anyone. This is why selling is so critical. You cannot keep signing and doing this. You need sales (at higher amount than you bought at) on a regular basis or you cease to be able to sign anyone and fail FFP. In effect, we’ve already spent this season’s transfer budget in the previous two.

The good thing is we have been disciplined and not continued to spend this summer on fees, and the wage will is almost certainly lower, but we will have costs hit the P&L and FFP calcs from transfer fees spent in the last two years. What I expect is we’ll see in March that last season’s P&L and FFP position is worse than the year before, which, without a sale yet, explains the lack of further transfer fees this summer. I would expect, as per Simon’s analysis that we will need a big player sale or two this Jan or summer 2027 to avoid a belt tightening, fire sale scenario during the 2027/28 season.

This is why keeping the key assets fit is critical. But, again, a big positive is the squad appear much fitter this August than the previous two (are clearly finishing games stronger), which indicates lessons have been learnt (also indicated by the players returning one week earlier this summer for pre-season training relative to the season start, and the double sessions Adamson mentioned). I think the club would be really well served by communicating with fans the things we’ve done differently this pre-season to solve the issues of the past two seasons. It would show they are listening, identifying problems, and fixing them, which would go some way to building more trust.

Feels a lot like Warbs 3rd season when we had a go, plan then was if it fails you have Willock, Chair, Dickie, Dieng etc to sell but we stupidly didn't do that and suffered. We have a squad capable to a playoff push, so many factors like injuries will come into play but we'd have to be seriously unlucky or stupid to not get decent money for likes of Kone, Burrell and Edwards if this season doesn't end in promotion.

As for window it looks great on paper, I always think you judge a window when the next one starts, not all the signings will work but feels like a step in the right direction.

Hunter I agree they are fitter, with a couple of exceptions, and finishing games much stronger than last season.

I find it interesting that you stated they returned to pre season two weeks earlier; in a previous thread, I posted my view that if they wanted a slower build up of workload then they should report back earlier.

How did you calculate it was two weeks earlier? Was it two extra weeks before the opening league or the cup match?

Edit (well, I will edit): Correction. They started pre-season on the same date this summer as last (26th June) with the season starting one week later. So it’s one week extra.

I also know from someone at the club that they have done things differently this season. The club were surprised how early Stephan gets the balls out in pre-season training. They hadn’t planned for this. It reduced time they had on the strength and conditioning side, and also, apparently (not an expert so hard to judge) training with balls too early increases stress on the players bodies which can cause injuries. Someone better placed than me would need to confirm that. And it doesn’t account for injuries in Jan and beyond, but still…

That isn’t to say Stephan is at fault, he’s always done it that way at prior clubs without awful injury records or slow starts, and pre-season started last year the day after he landed. It just surprised them.

They made changes this year to the pre-season schedule, part of which I reckon was getting them in a week earlier (relative to the season start date) to do more strength and conditioning work early without impacting the time Stephan has to do ball drills with them.

Whatever the changes they seem, at this point in time, good, so it’s be a nice easy comms win for the club to explain things.

Edit 2: I suppose you could say the Millwall League Cup match was the start of the season which would effectively make pre-season the same length. However, the difference in performance levels between that and Portsmouth seemed noticeable and those at the cup game (I wasn’t, so can’t say) was that it had the air of a pre-season friendly in how some of the players were putting it about. So I suspect the pre-season schedule was worked towards Portsmouth.

Interesting insight, thank you. I expect the players have something in their contracts, or union agreements, to give them a certain amount of downtime in the summer. Having that league cup match on the Saturday was a big help to our pre and early season.

Had we gone through though we would have faced back to back to back three game weeks, just two league games into the season. The football league needs to have a bit of a rethink on that. If we are going to continue having a two week international break maybe let clubs play some league cup games then, without international players.
