Quite a few players, not only Burrell, seemed to be playing within themselves as they return from injury. Madsen and Poku definitely.

I was reasonably positive yesterday despite getting knocked out of the cup. Millwall were missing some players but that was still a strong side. Kemper will not face many better and did well. Kone and Burrell are clearly 2 of our big strength for the season but that doesn’t mean we have to play both every game. Against the better sides, I think 1 up front and we don’t need to make Burrell play in an unfamiliar position. He’ll have plenty of opportunities. That’s why I’m pleased we seem to be signing a big strong winger who can create more from out wide. Question is Stephan going to just play one of them against some of the stronger sides? | | | |

Am I right in thinking your reference to us "signing a big strong winger" refers to the Wimbledon lad, Junior Nkeng? If so I'd be very surprised if he went straight into the first team. At 19, he's only had one season with Wimbledon in L1. If he is signed, I'd expect him to play in the Dev squad. |  | | |

Then one on one with the keeper and no defender and he doesn’t score.
Then a truly awful pen to set the tone in the shoot out.

Am I right in thinking your reference to us "signing a big strong winger" refers to the Wimbledon lad, Junior Nkeng? If so I'd be very surprised if he went straight into the first team. At 19, he's only had one season with Wimbledon in L1. If he is signed, I'd expect him to play in the Dev squad. |

I’m more inclined to think that Kone was too slow to get to the pass. That guy simply cannot sprint.
Lloyd gave us some much needed pace and power up front that Kone simply doesn’t possess. And Kone’s first touch is hopeless.
I know I’m in the minority, but I just don’t rate him. Will probably get another 10 goals this season because he can finish, but watching him lumbering around fouling everyone he comes into contact with, frustrates the shit out of me.
Chair didn’t have his best game, but he was still better than Vale. Vale’s set pieces were shocking and his propensity to disappear for large sections of the game is very Dozzell like. | | | |

'We need to cut him some slack but he cost us the game' - interesting interpretation of cutting him some slack. Chair didn't 'cost us the game' any more than Charles did - in fact he salvaged it and can add yet another assist to his collection. His penalty was poor, no question and he is undoubtedly rusty after 2 injury ravaged seasons. But he us still our most influential player and once he gets a run of games, will play a significant role in our season. | | | |

Thank you Clive - Bang on the money as usual and a great write up.
Quite funny that I also described our performance as "All foreplay and no penetration" on our Group WhatsApp after the game.
Kone and Burrell need to share the one up top position if that is how we are going to play. Kone does 60 minutes then Burrell comes on and vise versa. Don't want to see either of them in any other position this season.
And as much as I love Chair he continues to frustrate and could become a problem child in this squad. | | | |
