| Do we need another striker before the window closes? 00:44 - Aug 30 with 15587 views | Hoopsie | I am not pressing the panic button yet but none of our strikers have scored 3 games in Mind we are playing well but in the final third our strikers were found wanting, asking all the questions but no answer Is it a concern? Bolton match seems to suggest that, we had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t put the ball in the net With Kolli out of favour and Obikwu years away? A premier league loan maybe? | |

| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 10:31 - Aug 30 by Stainrod | If it were me I’d loan Alfie to a L1 club if possible and use Kolli as a super sub |
Alfie has already had a league one loan and they got promoted! Not down to him admittedly but he’s done his time and I think he’s learnt from it. Kolli hasn’t had a loan and it’s him that needs one: not for shooting but to improve his all round game which isn’t good enough. I wouldn’t have Kolli as a super sub anyway as he’s injured almost as much as JCS, including at the moment.
| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 14:18 - Aug 30 with 2383 views | ManinBlack | If we are not going to use Kolli then we probably do require another striker. Middlesbrough brought in Lankshear from Spurs who has sc than last season ored 6 in 5 games which could be the difference in them going one step further now they have a goalscorer. It will be interesting to see how we contain him on Saturday. | | | |

Alfie made 19 appearances and scored 1 goal in L1. I really don’t get how that now qualifies him to be a regular striker off the bench in a Championship club aiming for the playoffs. Kolli’s games per minute and total goals at Championship level are out of sight better. Only at QPR would we consider a likeable but nevertheless headless chicken who runs around a lot the better option, and ostracise the one product of our academy of recent years who might just make it…

Morrison is still in the squad and we are meant to be developing him. Mbengue was signed as a CB. Curkin has played there a fair bit. We have ronnie, jcs and jimmy competing for 2 places. Jimmy rarely msisses a game. We are not Man City, if he does get injured we just have to make do IMHO

| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 13:27 - Aug 30 by TK1 | Edwards is not a CM. He's a highly skilled player who could do a job anywhere, but watch the Cantwell chance with the header he absolutely should've scored in the first half. Comes about because Edwards lets him run off his shoulder, completely unaware there's anyone there because it's not his position, he's not used to it and it will bite him/us at some point. He's a good enough player to play full back, CM or even CF in a short-term role. But he's a centre back. The player we need more than anything is a wise-head CB to cover and replace Cook. |
The 'wise-headed' CB you mention is somebody called Jimmy Dunn, our Captain & a QPR player whom is approaching 200 games for this very Club. He is also in the Ireland squad!!!! We also have JCS whom has played a lot of professional matches. Put Edwards in the frame and we have 3 very decent CB's. Plus Morrision & Mbengue who can cover not forgetting the young lad who played for the first team last season who plays in the Development squad plus Cirkin. No need for another CB, 'wise headed' or not!!! A forward may be the right choice.

But he’s never fit and he doesn’t train well. He manages one DS match and he’s injured. The first quality you want from a player is availability and he just isn’t. Also Alfie is a disruptor whereas Kolli isn’t. When he comes on the pitch he shakes things up and occupies the defence. That can be useful when you’re 2-1 up. I agree that Kolli is without question a better shooter. But that’s not all you need. You need to be available first and second you need to contribute in an all round sense and I don’t think Kolli does. If his all round game was better and he was available then he’d be getting the gig. Which is why he needs a loan.

I'm with Nix on this one. Yesterday Lloyd came on and hassled the Blackburn back 4 which helped get us up the pitch and created chances. Kolli reminds me of watching my younger brother - he's frustrating as anything for 90% of the time as he doesn't contribute, but just as you're about to give him both barrels he scores. I love Kolli and desperately want him to come good, but I'd rather have Lloyd in the squad right now. Kolli after a year on loan, however...?

I meant a player to cover for Dunne, who cannot realistically be expected to play every game. He wins headers in each boxes and nobody else does, certainly none of the players you cite do. Yes, we have "three very decent CB's." You need four minimum and none that you mention are dominant in the air, blood and thunder CBs in the Dunne mould. Steve Cook played 30 games for the 1st team last season and has not been replaced. That's what I think we need. ps. who is "the young lad who played for the first team last season who plays in the Development squad"? Tylon Smith has left the club. So that's another CB gone.

| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 18:21 - Aug 30 with 1889 views | Jevlar | For me, no. We just need Burrell and Kone to get one each and I think they’ll be up and running. And two raw understudies works for me. Kolli - might be best for all that he’s moved on, which is a shame, he’s a great finisher It does feel like Burrell is getting there - great assist yesterday. Kone needs one off his arse to get his confidence up and hopefully he’ll be back to beating up the oppos centre halves. He looks a little bereft and a yard off it at the moment. Is he still recovering from a knock? | | | |
| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 19:02 - Aug 30 with 1767 views | Bukim_Dano | Have we got the headroom to sign anyone else? As far as I can see we still have 26 players in our first team squad: 3 goalies: Charles. Ward. Salamon. 9 defenders: Adamson. Dunn. Morrison. Edwards. JCS. Kemper. Cirkin. Mbengue. Lamptey 9 midfielders: Dembele. Chair. Smyth. Saito. Poku. Kamara. Vale. Madson. Varane. 5 forwards: Lloyd. Burrell. Kone. Obikwu. Kolli. Since we are only allowed to have 25 in the first team squad somebody else is going to have to be sold or go on loan anyway within the next 24 hours - presumably out of Morrison/Varane/Kolli. We will have to lose 2 if we are to get anyone else in. | | | |

Look I just think he’s not ready for the Championship. Do I think he’s got more potential long term than Lloyd? Almost certainly. I just think he needs a loan, even for half a season. I don’t think Lloyd would improve much more with another loan but I think Kolli would. Do I think Lloyd is more useful at the current time from the bench because of his availability and his usefulness at the end of matches? Yes I do. Do I think Kolli is more likely to score than Lloyd? Yes I do. But that’s not the only thing you need. I always thought Andre Gray was a liability despite his goals because of his (lack of an) all round game. It’s fine if you disagree though. It’s just opinions.

Or isnt fit enough to even be considered for a game thats if we was down to our fifth choice striker , goes both ways , a player who has a great shot on him or a player who’s all works his arse off and yesterday helped us win the game with his work rate whe. He came on he gave Burrell more space to work in and lo and behold we scored . You can’t sing the praises of a player who is rarely fit let alone play regular matches. Sounds more like the reg sat at home mob who hammer smyth no matter what he does in the team. I’m sure he’ll be around post transfer window and the same discusssion about how brilliant he is can continue while he’s sat in the treatment room getting more treatment for his latest cough injury [Post edited 30 Aug 22:17]

I agree Wombat Why Smythie gets grief is beyond me. Excellent run into space yesterday and a very tidy finish. Deserves a squad place for his goal celebrations alone. [Post edited 30 Aug 23:10]

I get the criticism of Koli but: why do you typically bring a striker off the bench? Normally because you need a goal. By my (imperfect) maths, Alfie has made just under 60 league appearances. He has 3 goals.

If your name is Erling Haaland maybe you'd be happy with the title "striker." But it's a loaded term which doesn't do players who carry it many favours IMHO. Once upon a simpler time there were forwards, half-backs and full-backs. Forwards carried the bulk of the goal-scoring load, mostly the CF. But on some, usually more creative teams, it might be the inside forwards, even the wing-halves now and again. What it comes down to is that if the team as group scores enough goals, it doesn't matter who's boot puts the ball in the net, nor what number is on his shirt. At the moment we've got a good group of small to average sized front runners who are beginning to mesh well it seems to me. Maybe one or two will score enough goals to satisfy those fans want to call them 'striker,' but that doesn't make the others chopped liver, far from it. Lloyd, for example, may not have the goal-scoring ability of some, but he's fast and, I'm guessing, a bloody nuisance to play if you're a tired defender. He's a specialty player in a game which now allows half a team's worth of subs. We are going to see more of them in the coming seasons. [Post edited 31 Aug 2:47]

| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 05:18 - Aug 31 with 1008 views | Hoopsie | I think Kone is the only "true"striker in the squad Burrell is played on the wing, or off the striker (Kone) if it is 2 man upfront Lloyd is more of a forward, not a central striker, and he doesn't score many as many pointed out Kolli, there is still debate where his best position is, but basically a forward player but is rarely fit So do we lack a striker*, or, do we need one more? * in CM games, that is the player with the position "SC" | |

It is a great asset but it's not the only thing necessary to be in the match day squad. Who is currently the better contributor to the team? Kolli is a very skillful footballer and goalscorer but has always struggled with his fitness and is currently injured. Alfie is a hard working and quick forward who makes a good contribution to the gameplay when he is used.
| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 09:30 - Aug 31 with 844 views | essextaxiboy | Our problem would be if Obikwu is selected for the 25 and then goes long term sick again . We are then just one more injury away from having two fit strikers trying to manage the schedule of games . The situation with Kolli is farcical IMO | | | |
| Do we need another striker before the window closes? on 09:39 - Aug 31 with 786 views | cpgerber | My concern with Obikwu is that we have no idea if he is any good at all. Even if he comes back tomorrow fully fit, he might end up a complete dud. Now I have to admit our recruitment team seems to have really stepped up their game and I would like to think they have spotted potential here, but you can never say for sure until someone actually shows his worth. So I am a little worried about the striker options at the moment, but not to the point where I think we definitely need enforcements. I am going to stay positive and believe Kolli is still in the picture also, which will settle my nerves. I don't know what the loan deal with Bennie is like, but perhaps we have the option to recall him in January. Strategy could be to just make it to then and see where we are at, then enforce or recall Bennie, who is getting plenty game time now. | | | |
