I wonder if our weak start has had a detrimental impact on potential signings? We were probably a desirable move 8 weeks ago. Maybe not so much now.

Tomorrow night is a six pointer already! Who’d of thought it.

I want to see an attacking line up tomorrow and positive changes and fresh legs made on the hour not 80th plus.

The timing of subs is dependent on the flow of the game, rather than specific minutes on the clock. Either way, it's something the coaching team need to work on, which is disappointing

Your point about attracting decent players is spot on. When our loanees signed up, including the latest one Kane Taylor, the messaging was that we had a reputation that'd been part of agreeing to come here. The (early) league table means it'd sound pretty hollow for anyone to speak about us in that positive fashion

Word is we've just taken Charlie Tasker on loan from Brighton. If true, he's not the experienced pro most are hoping for but he's highly thought of by the locals.

A quick search suggests he is a right back. So that would be one of the two. Please can Jamie Allen be the other!

As good as Allen is, another midfielder is probably at the bottom of our “required” list. Definitely need a fullback.

If anything, would still be hoping someone would want East or Gilmour. For their sakes too, especially when some are questioning whether they are good enough at this level (they are).

I will wait to its confirmed, because a number of championship teachers have enquired about him,

I agree we need to play attacking football tomorrow, we cannot carry on with the indecisive negative football we have seen so far, I wonder if Smith is ready to start or needs more game time to get up to speed. The bigger question is what formation and team selection will be tomorrow, because it changes every game.

You have brought up East and Gilmour as potential sales/ transfers on a couple of occasions recently, why would they be shipped out now? I know we have midfield cover "in the building" but crocked or untried?

These two have served us well and I'm sure will again once the TEAM get going.

Well he's not been in any Salford matchday squad so far this season so he's either injured or out of favour with their new coach/manager. He's certainly a player who was superb for us when he was fit.

Replacement for Mani D if you’re to believe Carlisle fans about him going to them.

Anyone seen ‘Trev’? Is he off playing golf with Duffy?

Why? Because of what was discussed earlier in the summer. Not withstanding our current position, we have to look get back to becoming a club where we develop players and they move on at a profit.

This worked when we were most successful. It also makes us more attractive to players who may be thinking of coming here - sign, get better, progress career.

Specifically with selling East or Gilmour, it would have been based on that they’ve played together for three seasons (with some calling for change at various stages when results dipped) and both had very good reputations. We already had Pettit and Francis had arrived a few months back with good pedigree. Then we signed Jenkins too.

Now of course injuries have got in the way, but it’s also led to two further midfielders signing. So yes, I’d have sold one. Problem now is, their value may have decreased, you have to sell at the right time.

If one goes, we’d have the other, Francis, Adeeko and Taylor. Plus the likes of Hannant who could play as a 10 in attacking midfield. Pettit back around Christmas too. But it’s probably too late now, I don’t think the club or the players are in a better position for both remaining after last season, that’s all.

Hurts me to say it but Mani D has been an absolute shadow of the player we had last season. Can only think he wants away such is his lack of involvement. Or perhaps National League is his level ? Or he's carrying an injury? Or he simply doesn't want to play for IW?

Either way, signing another injury prone striker to possibly replace him (Jay Bird) would be a huge gamble.

I have a couple of spare tickets for the main stand tonight, if anyone is in need or wants to subject a couple of their mates to it. FOC, just drop me a PM.

Under normal circumstances I would agree but IW is now in the casino gambling on signings I'm afraid due to our lack of goal threat. I guess it depends on what terms we secure Jay Bird if he is coming.

I would be amazed if Mani could not score goals at EFL2 level, but if he gets no service and is feeding off scraps how is he expected to perform as a penalty box striker? Bird is a different proposition and would hold the ball up giving us possession in the final third.

Hopefully if we can afford it the two of them could combine to create something more potent than we have at the moment?

That last suggestion is something worth considering, and shipping Rodney out instead; however, if Carlisle (or anyone else) are prepared to offer a reasonable fee for Mani D, the offer shouldn't be turned down

Rodney can go for free

That’s really good of you, hope someone can take you up on it.

Back to the rumours around Dieseruvwe, the main concern would be how quickly we seem to be moving away from the environment created as players drop in and out of the side and now possible links elsewhere.

It’s not that players shouldn’t be moving on (see the East/Gilmour conversation) it’s that it has to be natural progression within a structured culture. Watson was big on talking up how well we did last season, how it was such a good place to come into and build upon what we had. For now though, from the outside, it appears a bit confusing. Doubt becomes a difficult thing to remove.

Beckwith (Plays better as a CB than a LB)
EEL (Plays better in a 3 than a 2)
TAR (Plays better as a WB than as a FB)
East
Gilmour
Mani (Better when not asked to press)
Rodney (Better behind the striker than a winger)

I see that as at least 5 of our most influential players from last season have been made less effective due to the system that has been implemented. Of course there's the debate whether some are good enough to step up or permanently out of form (Rodney) but there's no chance that Watson could've told the board that there would need to be this much of a transition in personnel. I doubt there's been a team in history that have ripped us as much as we have after getting 100+ points the season before.

As good a player as Bird is, we need a striker who can play 40+ games this season.

I know Mani hasn’t had the best start but the same can be said about virtually every other player in the squad.

In theory (and I stress this), the 4-3-3 IW wants to employ should suit Mani with wingers putting balls into the box and playing close (ish) to him up top.

In the event that IW does depart, I do think that someone else would be able to get a tune out of him so I am personally hoping that he stays. Proven goalscorers are hard to come by and even if he hasn’t yet done it at this level, we know what he can do given the service.

I love Bird but how fit is he and what’s his likelihood of getting injured again? I would say it’s too big of a gamble given the injury issues we already have at the club

The narrative was also that IW was chosen as it was seen as a fairly close continuation of the style and ethos that JM employed.

Unfortunately, I believe that we are beginning to see this is not the case and in a situation where we needed continuity, we have had anything but

The bigger question then, is who made that call - on Watson being the continuity candidate, i.e. was it outsourced or something our board had noticed directly? Awkward questions, but they need asking... and we have an upcoming forum

(Yes, it's one i'd be prepared to ask)

It’s also an illustration of how well coached they were over the last few years, to the point where maybe the players themselves didn’t realise that what was once automatic is not always transferable.

It can be argued that players should be adaptable, but it shows how meticulous the recruitment was to ensure anyone who played fit into a system that was both enjoyable to play and produced results. That those results were at a once in a career level, would make dealing with not winning every week more difficult.

Whilst it’s possible to see why Watson was seen as fitting the club’s philosophy around how we play, what was underestimated (by probably everyone) was how important whoever was chosen also was a good fit to the squad and formation they’d been brought in to play.

If that wasn’t an issue, we’d never have gone back to three at the back v Crawley.

I cannot see anywhere, that it as been that we have signed Charlie Tasker on loan or is it just speculation.

In respect to Mani, I pointed out in an earlier post, Mani has scored just 4 goals throughout his EFL career, whereas Rodney has scored around 25 goals in his EFL career. Mani is a good NL striker, but that may be his level, I hope I am proved wrong tonight.
