I don’t always agree with Wilkins, but I can definitely see where he is coming from tonight. This was a hard watch, especially last 15 minutes, when we were literally hanging on. Willock had the freedom of the left wing although Adamson was a significant improvement on Mbengue. Yes of course in the immediate aftermath of Burrell’s second we should have had at least 2 more and then the game would have been out of sight and it would have been a much more relaxed final fifteen minutes. But we were out-played and out-passed in that final period and so we need to find a way to be much more clinical. |
Apart from the last 15 minutes or so, it wasn’t a hard watch . It was a fast exciting game when at times we looked as if we could run away with it. Vale was the only poor player imo. Charles distribution was not his best, but still better than Nardi or Walsh. He did some decent catches off his line.
The rest were a joy to watch for 70 minutes. In previous seasons we would have conceded an equaliser and even lost. The atmosphere did drop , but picked up for the final few minutes. [Post edited 2 Sep 23:11]

Think your post is tongue in cheek sarcasm and the opposite of wnat you actually thoughg - otherwise its just blatantly not what happened.
Everything about that performance was excellent apadt from the finishing. Another day - in fact most days thats 5 - 1.
The fact we are being so creative is brilliant. i think each of the last three matches we have had 20 shots at goal.
But we are QPR - nothing is ever easy,
Lamptey is brilliant. Burrell today was very sharp and so quick. Lloyd has been a big surprise - he is proving to be a total handful and pacy also. Kamara today was just so so strong - master class of defensive midfield play. Personally I thought Saito was decent and Edwards was cruising.
Yes we were not that comfortable at the end and tnat should never have been the case in this game.
But roll on Boro. We can totally assess where we are at after this game, but from all I have seen, there are many reasons to be excited about this squad.
Second win in the second game of a three game week and with teams changed around also.
For me after this game. Its a good time to be an R.

I only caught second half.
Should of put it to bed in first 20 minutes.Burrell should have got 2, Saito should of got one and Vale had he took a touch first would've smashed it in.
We were lucky after their goal to not fall apart.
But it was a good team performance.... got the 3 points.

Don’t disagree with what you’ve said about the teams we’ve played, however, 10 points out of 12 is still a good return no matter where they are expected to finish.
It’s a long haul with a lot of teams capable of making the top 10, and we’re going to have to play all of them twice. Don’t think anyone is getting carried away, just basking in a rare moment of glory over the last few years!
Let’s see what Saturday brings.

My first home game in ages, so very grateful for the win! Plenty of big positives, Lamptey and Kamara, wow, what fantastic acquisitions they are. And Rumarn bubbling back to top form. Was in the perfect position to view that gorgeous second goal, on my feet after Ronnie delivered that delicious pass and Rumarn finished with aplomb. Thought we were often profligate through the game though, some badly fluffed passes and chances - Harvey Vale was right off it first half, but despite Lloyd's golden chance miss I thought he kept the Cardiff defence tied up and honest.
Didn't like the ref much first half, seemed to favour them all the time, but better second. Thought the 4 changes were too much and we suffered, but unlike many I didn't feel nervous - we've got Jimmy (who was great again) and Ronnie after all. And a win's a win.
Big shout out to Spaceman, keep it going buddy - if you can get a result v Borough you'll justly deserve the Golden Fred. |

Possession only matters in so far as you actually do anything with it. Cardiff created some chances but also spent a lot of the time moving the ball around without any penetration at all.
Not taking anything away from them - they're a decent side and I think they'll be just fine this season - but I don't care about possession numbers if we keep creating chances like that. Another day and that was 6-1... | | | |

I don’t think we’re getting carried away. No one has said we’re going to walk the league or beat all fhe top teams. As the PP said we can enjoy a bit one of our best starts to the season for years after some absolute dross. TBH last season we were drawing many of those matches against the teams we should’ve been beating.
I also don’t think we should judge ourselves against any one team. Millwall lost their last two matches 5-1 away and 3-0 af home; are they suddenly no hopers? Of course not. As I say every season apart from the one where Ainsworth had that terrible squad (that we could all see were going to be a disaster losing heavily to AFC Wimbledon snd Oxford in pre season) we can’t really assess progress properly until we’ve played ten matches.
Middlesbrough is coming at the end of a three game week and we’re still managing minutes and bringing people back from injury so I’m not going to be judging them by that one performance. |  | | |

It was a brilliant game and we played lots of lovely football.
I’ve seen many many hard watches at Loftus Road. That was not one.

Having produced in the region of 40 shots in the last two games and only managed 2 goals, it’s easy to see why.
Nonetheless, we are creating them and our play is at times fantastic. Vale, Madsen and Kone in particular, have yet to hit their stride and we need to see what the entity obikwu has to offer.
Middlesbrough will be a different kind of test and we will need the players out there that can hold and control possession far better than those last night. Chair and the strangely absent Poku will be needed. Would also stick with Lloyd up front if we intend to play with 2 up front.

Re: Poku Stephan said he was resting him. After the issues with his hamstrings last season I wouldn’t be playing him twice in five days yet either until he’s fully match fit and maybe not even then. Got home at midnight - bloody M1 shut
Great win and so much to enjoy in that performance- I normally get to 4/5 games a season but I’m going to increase that this season
I’ve decided I’m not going to even bother looking at possession stats anymore
We were by far the better team - but the stats suggest it was a bit of a mugging
Positives - build up play and chances created - the best I’ve seen it since coming down - both flanks possess loads of attacking threat - recruitment at full back and on the wings is really paying dividends. Midfield kamara was outstanding Madsen a good foil and Edward’s really reminds me of Terry fenwick (showing My age). GK - Charles didn’t pass brilliantly but he claimed or punched every cross he could get to. The bench - it’s the strongest bench we’ve had since rednapp days - it’s very well assembled
The middle stuff - defence was pretty solid again but we really dropped very deep In 2nd half and some old habits came back - SUBS- I was amazed that Lloyd and Mbengue weren’t the first men off the pitch - both were absolutely gassed and we carried Lloyd for another 5-10 mins - I like him but he should have had a couple - vale was frustrating some very good link up play and then wasteful passes and he should have picked up a goal with his left foot
Last thoughts is that although it was close - JS read the first game of a 3 game week perfectly (just) lots of players got rest and we got the 3 points - boro will be tough but we can compete with this squad. For our budget I think we have the best possible squad we can have. I think were going to batter someone in the next few weeks

Well, I don't “read” a game as well as some, but I thought Cardiff were pretty good. Willock very dangerous when he came on. It goes down in my book as a bloody good win. If we'd have been a bit sharper in their box we'd have had a better last 20 mins.

good win, we played well and created lots, if we were ruthless and clinical with our finishing we would have been 5-0 up at HT , We weren't but looked good. stats are one thing but really what matters is the win . Lamptey and Kamara looked good, madsen is back, Burrell is lively the 2-1 made for a nervy last 5 but we held out and are joint top, wow that sounds good. | | | |
