We looked a lot better in that 2nd half, we just didn't get the rub of the green, Matos needs to find a way to tighten us up at the back, we got opened up like a can of worms far to often tonight, I know Southampton have quality players, but it looked far to easy for them. |
as disappointing as the result was tonight i think we all had an idea we would be up against it and so it proved.
this Southampton side will be right up there come next may no question, we put that game behind us and as has been said above we move on to Saturday when another hard game will await us, the coaches should have learned a bit tonight of the actual consistency that is required to maintain a good run, all is not lost but we must learn from defeats like this evening

Hope Matos doesn't feel "obliged" to reinstate Cabango for this game. I think both Welsh & Lissah have been a fantastic pairing since Cabango's injury. Not only do they both possess quality on the ball along with an eye for an incisive pass but they also possess a calmness about them that must translate to the other players around
them. If it ain't broke & all that... |

We were never comfortable in the ball this evening. You have to give credit to Southampton for that to an extent. They’re better than pressed well and didn’t allow us to get into a rhythm.
But also maybe we (the players) lost it before they got on the pitch thinking they were better than them. So much in sport is decided in the top 3”. |  |

Easier, what p!ssed me off is the lack of communication when had the ball.
There was no 'man on' or ' time.
We panicked with silly rushed passes and some players are trying too hard.
All their goals were scored by them hitting us on the break and us switching off.
As ive said previously, I am not worried, this is what I expected to happen, I dont think matos will panic, he will have alot to work on though. | | | |

Yes I think we would have done better but am not necessarily suggesting we would have won the game - nobody will know that for sure. This is just my opinion (if I'm allowed that) but I've never been a huge fan of Ben Cabango. Without doubt both Lissah & Welsh are better footballers than Cabango,more athletic and calmer under pressure. | | | |

Burnley and Lincoln will not be walkovers and they will be looking at how easily we conceded tonight
We’ve signed midfielders but our Achilles heel is our fullbacks who aren’t the best defensively ,the only answer for now is to get them closer to the opposition widemen ,not letting them have the ball unopposed and coming at us and get our wingers to cover them more
Lissah and Welsh are our best CB pairing ,both are more mobile in defence and going forward and we need to play them together from now on
And we need to get shots away quickly instead of trying to thread balls through tiny gaps
We need to learn from this ,and from the Wrexham and Sheffield Utd games because they both stifled us far too easily
Probably a wake up call for people tipping us for top 8 | | | |

I think tonight has shown us that its as clear as day that Cabango is not of the quality required to help us compete at the top end of this league, I wish it was different but it isn't unfortunately. My early season optimism of seeing the ball being played through the lines was replaced tonight by the slow, lethargic sideways and backwards short balls that got us stuck in the mud last season (haven't we all suffered enough of this). The one common denominator tonight....yes you guessed it!
It was not Cabango's fault we lost however, Southampton were a yard sharper and far quicker on the break vs a team that looked jaded and confused for large parts of the first half. Im putting this down to the new players getting used to the league and a really tough test tonight. However with a big expensive squad this year I am confident this will improve when players are fully bedded into the new system.
I hope the coaches can find a solution for Cabango to be more effective playing out from the back or he just isn't going to add enough value this season.
Southampton seem to have placed a hex on us, we need to call on the ancient Druids to expunge whatever spell they have on us as its beginning to p@ss me right off.
Onto the next one and lets hope the team looks a bit livelier for Burnley. | |

They are better footballers but ws were playing the best side we have played this season, as ive said, i think we would have struggled no matter who played in defence, imo it was several midfielders who lack of concentration which lead to their goals. | | | |

I see players who are getting used to a new team and system with early potential but certainly not duds?
Comparing our wingers to Scienza is not a like for like comparison, he is one of the best in this league and would be a good winger in the prem too.

Just not at the races last night. For a few reasons. Southampton were good, but we were well below our best.
Matos screwed with a stable, proven defence to shoehorn Cabango back in and we paid a price for that. We looked all over the place. Key, Welsh, Lissah and Tymon must start most games going forward now if fit.
Many of the new arrivals need to buck up too. Stephen Welsh thus far is the only one to prove himself a clear and obvious improvement on what we already had. Elijah Just has been a significant downgrade. Early days for all of them of course and it would be foolish to write any of them off after half a dozen games, but we need to see more. From Just especially. There have been hints with the others but absolutely nothing from him.
Otherwise it's players who were already at the club like Eom, Key & Fulton who are carrying us at the moment. |  |

Another first half half/ second half performance. This looked nothing like that home game last season. Players in opposition players faces them given no space, the annoying thing about the first goal was we got players back but no one closed the player on the ball down quick enough as it progressed through us, by the time we did react to the player having the ball it was too late. We haven't played like that in a while previously we anticipated players movement closed players down quicker, didn't give them time to make passes or give them options by tracking runners instead of being caught flat footed.
The second goal and third smacked of panic we are one goal down in each case but we mustn't throw caution to the wind. A bit of patience and composure was needed. In the second half we did the hard part and got the goal to get us back in the game only to gift them a goal.
We have been in this position before the mindset of the players wrong, too defensive leading to pressure, too attacking leading to gaps. The reason for our good defensive record this season was we didn't leave gaps for teams to play in, didn't make errors in dangerous positions, too many gaps, too many errors we lost control of ourselves and the game at Key moments.
We move on.

Lissah is a talent but was sacrificed to bring Cabsngo back
Tymon is still terrible at defending
As is obvious
We’ve got a huge squad yet several seem much better than what we had otherwise Stam and Fulton wouldn’t be playing together
