We try but to no OH VALE! 16:55 - Nov 5 with 1354 viewsJules4367

Somebody said on Tuesday that we kjeep playing him because, like Zamora, he'll be sleighted all season and then score the winner in the play off final at Wembley.

Personally, I don't agree with this and playing with 10 men all season doesn't bode well.

Varanne scored, great, but beginning to wonder about him too!
Saito falling over is a concern
Love Smyth but he'll soon get a name for diving with the refs.

But hey there are some positives ....

I think the referees already know about Paul Smyth, seems about 50/50 now whether they are going to call fouls on him, or let the oppo have a free hack all night.

I don't think Saito is ready for the physicality of the Championship

For Vale this season read Madsen before.
We've invested in this player and we will make it work via continued minutes on the pitch, or so it seems

Lets hope for a similar outcome that Madsen had (not the injury part)

I thought Vale was marginally better on Tuesday. Played one exquisite pass in the first half, close with quite a few others and tracked back a little bit more.

Thought he was a large part of our starting the first 15 minutes well.

Once Smyth and Saito started running into blind alleys, his game seemed to drift.

He needs to impose himself more, the confidence he had when he arrived doesn’t seem to be there lately.

He was fine in the first half. Looked one of our most dangerous players. Everyone was poor from about 30 minutes onwards. Unfair to pick out Vale over other players who were also very poor. He's not in my team if everyone is fit but everyone is not fit so he's playing.

Vale will play well on many occasions and impact games in the future. He definitely has something. There's a player there.

The player that I am losing faith with myself sadly is Saito. Great person, am sure and clearly loves the game but he is lost at this level and sadly is a passenger.

If we paid £4.5million for him as widely reported, we wont get anywhere near that kind of money for him, £1 million max now I would think and I cant see him improving now.

Vale on the other hand, definitely feel there is something there to be worked on. He definitely could have resale value and hopefully contribute much more for us in the near future. He is only 22 I believe. Saito is 25 now.

Vale for me at the moment is; availability is the best ability, so we shall see him tomorrow.

To be fair he has been asked to play wide right, wide left and in the middle but you feel if everyone was fit and available he would be on the bench.

Saito is in a bad run of form not helped by sporadic game time. At least he is always trying to create shooting opportunities but again on the bench if everyone is available.

Smyth probably won't get as many free kicks as he should but he is one of my favourite players and so many defenders have to foul him to stop him.

As others have said, he's both versatile and available, two very important traits in this Rangers team.

Vale closed out the end of last season in cracking form. 3G and 7A after Christmas, scored our goal of the season, was constantly threatening with his deliveries from the right and from set-pieces (although admittedly inconsistent).

Think he's earned a bit of patience from the fans and still has a lot to offer going forward.

Upvoted OP in error. Don't agree, but wasn't going to downvote it either!

I think he is being played out of position. He looked much better back in August when he was more central, now he is being played in the weird inverted winger role and looks uncomfortable.

Your right that if everyone was fit he wouldn't start, definitely not wide. Again, it comes down to lack of availability and robustness of some of our players.

I love JS, but I think he is getting it wrong with Vale, who he said at the beginning of the season was a 10 or 6/8.
