Not on all counts but enough to go inside. Good. Never liked him. Not even back in the day. Felt there was something odd about him (almost as though his over exuberant self-proclaiming sexual conquests was a case of hiding in plain sight) and not surprised when all this came out.
I was on a rape trial many, many years ago and they are incredibly difficult to get a guilty verdict from so there must have been some very substantial details/evidence in this case.
In the case of the one I was on both sides account of the situation were equally plausible. After a week of each side putting their case across, witness statements etc it boiled down to one word against the other as to whether it was consensual or not. We were told that in order to give a guilty verdict it had to be proved with evidence that it was rape. There was no evidence at all to be able to do this so a not-guilty verdict was given. Not because he didn't do it, but because it couldn't be proven beyond all doubt he did. It was an incredibly difficult situation as if you get it wrong you could be sending someone down for 8 years who is innocent or letting someone free who is guilty.

Hate to even ask this question but if these crimes happened between 2004 and 2009 is it their words against his or is there some other evidence preserved like clothing etc. If he was 30 years old dating a 16 year old who he abused was that not already statuory r*pe or is the laws different in the UK. I watched the Jimmy Saville documentary a few years and it made me physically sick I dont want to research this any more . I see he is married to Bernard Gallagher's daughter hopefully they have no kids

The jury felt he was guilty on the counts he was convicted of, so yes there was evidence. When there are several complainants who don't know each other and have very similar testimony it's hard to refute.
Used to work with a woman 15 years ago, who willingly admitted she would let him do anything and everything to her. I never saw what women used to see in him and a man reported to have had nearly one thousand women sleep with him, clearly she was not alone in her thinking. I couldnt see myself what so many women back at that time liked about him. Found it very strange and to me he came across as very gay - probably an act though.
Clearly if he slept with such a vast number of women, many were possibly not exactly consensual, by weight of numbers.
A horrible man, no doubt anyhow, totally buying his own self image but the power of celebrity added to it.
Someone saying its very hard to pass on a conviction in these cases. Well a friend mine was on a jury of partner rape but since the complaint they were back together and married. The woman wanted the case dropped but it was already in process and my friend said by letter of the law they had to find him guilty.
Whatever, rape is a hideous crime, and Russell Brand will certainly need his "God" supporting him, as he will face time, although all criminals are being let out ridiculously early now.
Feel sad for his wife and kids. The reporters shouting at her that her husband is a rapist whilst having to go back to bringing up her kids knowing one day they will read and understand about their dad.
No one is a winner in these cases.
To be honest why do we never hear about all the good deeds going on in this world. There are plenty of brilliant things happening daily all around the world. 99% of people are decent and law abiding but we have to have this cr*p sensationalised day after day.
Everyone now is their own personal paperazzi. The world's gone mad and mainstream media has now expanded into the total jungle of social media thats out of control and unmanageable to bring back into any kind of decency.

I met Brand once. Had a female friend who adored him but after we met him even she turned against him
He was doing a small intimate talk thing in East London, we went as it was something to do.
Anyway, it started and I remember 1 girl arrived late and he went absolutely mental at the girl and told her to get out... it created a very unsettling vibe in the place as clearly everyone felt bad for the girl who obviously was a brand fan.
At the end he did a sort of meet and greet and I told my friend that I want to take the pee out of him to his face... she was horrified but knows how im like.
So basically I met him and did reverse psycho babble.

Then I remember i said Russell you're a spokesman of our times.

Then I said yeah the world is a s.hit show circus full of clowns and we left.
On the overground my female friend proclaimed.... he was a bit of a t.wat wasn't he?. yep he is! was my response.

As with all these things of this nature,it comes down to simple questions:
What was known/suspected?
Who knew about it?
When did they know about it?
What did they do once they knew about it?
The answers are invariably: Plenty. Many. Early. Nothing.

The talent has always been protected, and the boundaries of what is and isn't acceptable are ridiculous. Katy Brand, the writer, called him out, as have many other female comedians and writers were censured and quietly dropped because he was the draw.
When a man's defence in court is “Disgusting, distasteful, immoral – who cares? It’s irrelevant to your consideration.” it's becomes entirely relevant to my consideration of him as a person and whether he should be lauded and given work.
As with all these things of this nature,it comes down to simple questions:

What did they do once they knew about it?

This is it. These things seem to only catch up with the likes of Brand once they stop being influential. Katherine Ryan called all this out a long time ago.
I found reading the defences closing summary so depressing, it's little wonder so few rape victims come forward.
As for the 'found god' schtick, do me a favor. Just part of his more recent right wing grift in the US.

Again though serious questions need to be asked regarding all the TV/media companies that employed him. Plus politicians who courted his opinion, as if he spoke for the young of the day. It was an open secret, like Savill etc, that he was a wrong un.
