I struggle to think of any other club in the league/world that would have been as poorly prepared for that West Ham game as we were.

Mind you, I guess correctly spotting every single one of West Ham's strengths and playing directly to them was meticulous in its own way.

And then failing to redress matters for at least an hour when it was clear within 10 minutes to all and sundry that the wrong (albeit meticulously prepared) tactics had been employed.

If I've ever seen a manager launching a preemptive strike before their resignation, it's this. Hughes definitely doesn't feel confident we'll beat Southampton and will walk if we don't. Let's just hope TF and the Mittals have been working on a Plan B, because we don't want a Blackburn happening here.

In desperate times you have to come up with creative solutions. Hill was clearly being targeted and done for pace every time. Don't play 3 at the back, fine. But try Park at left back (who Gary Neville said was the best defender they had in training, "nobody could ever get past him"). Or if you're prepared to put one CB at LB (Hill) why not try another instead who is quicker (Ferdinand). Or why not try Mackie or SWP at RB and move Onuoha to the left? And Bosingwa was fit for the west brom game so there's even less excuse there.

If Bosingwa was fit at West Brom, I'm a top class professional footballer. He might have played but he was nowhere near fit.
As to the Reading league game, I'm sure Hughes and the rest of the coaching staff had prepared the team for assualt by set pieces. Such a pity the players decided not to bother putting it into practice until we had conceded a goal from a set piece.

Hughes has made mistakes and doesn't come across well. But, when he goes, there's more than a few players should look in the mirror and say "I did that".

You say that about Bosingwa at West Brom and I would have agreed with you at the time, but judging by his subsequent "performances" that's maybe just how fcking useless he is.

Mostly the players he bought and he has continued to pick.

Surely asking for the sack there, although wson't do a lot for his professional future as a manager, however someone might give him a go based on his past and working under Ferguson etc.

Getting back to the Hill at left back issue,
do you think Clints recent admission that he was no good at LB and past it, was a pressured statement from the top to save our Saviour Sparkys Skin
Food For thought

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

No, simply because it made Hughes look much worse. He picked a player in a position that everybody, including the player himself, knows he's no longer capable of playing.

Agreed. Thought it showed up Hughes completely.

I think the sub-editor has misrepresented Hughes here, but his quotes are pathetic and like others they make me wonder if he's got one eye on the financial haggling in the event of the sack.

it looks like he's planning in too much details and let the players too less room on the field.

What kind of a Manager would come out with a statement like "I can't do anymore"?

He's an absolute dead man walking now.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

This really seems to point to the major part of the problem:

Hughes was a truly successful player who was often very single minded and unshakeable in his belief in front of goal. All that adulation and support seems to have carried him into management and he treats it the same way. The problem is it's not about him anymore, its about him and his players - how he chooses them, how he motivates them, how he acknowledges and adjusts for their strengths and weaknesses.

As a player maybe he could get away with this headstrong individual approach in terms of preparation because he was doing everything his manager wanted at the same time. But management is very different. He can't just keep hitting the problem with the same trusty old hammer and say 'Well that's what always worked before, nothing to do with me'. It shows him up as being less intelligent than we would all hope.

A manager who wants the chairman to wield the axe I'd guess ted . Happy to walk away with a huge payout , sit on the odd tv panel then when people's minds have maybe forgotten. What a god awful mess he's made of things he might get a job from the next desperate chairman willing to take him on

Funny what you remember. Long time ago Rs at home to Man U, evening game. Hughes has already scored. He misses in front of the Loft, gets loads of abuse and catcalls. He calmly stands there around about the penalty spot, looks at the Loft, slowly wipes his finger on his tongue and holds his finger up. Cool as a cucumber.

Any success Hughes has enjoyed as a manager has been under a restricted framework with a limited budget. Under these conditions he has unearthed some talented players from around the globe. As soon as you give him money to spend he gets lazy and goes for the easy option; expensive signings or players he's worked with previously. QPR have little chance of attracting the world's best to Loftus Road so our transfer policy resulted in a collection of has-beens and primadonnas on inflated wages. The board would have been better served restricting Hughes' transfer budget irrespective of their personal wealth.

A very odd article to be honest. I don't dislike MH but perhaps he is just too serious about it all? If he can't do it bring on Rafa, who I am sure, given there are still enough games, just, can.

Never knowingly right.

This.

The earlier he is sacked, the greater chance he has of convincing the next clueless chairman that he 'wasn't given enough time'.

Not sure what we do now, do we go down and rebuild or spend more on another big manager? Whatever happens we've got a bunch of mercenaries who need to pull their socks up.

This

He must have lost the players, unless the article is stretching the context too much. I agree that he's mostly accountable and not the players -- motivation and lineups are at the top of his responsibilities, now more than ever. There's much he can and should do, contrary to what he's stated.

Whats most disappointing is our away form, scandalous that we haven't won away under him, tactically flawed and out thought every time and now thats happening at home.

"Stan work hard, could score goals in the air, and was complete team player. He headed balls off the line, and he had so much skill, balance, finesse and amazing touch. His mobility, that electrifying burst of 30 yards was exciting to watch"...Don Shanks.

'Sparky prides himself on checking the minutest detail before a game, usually starting with a long hard mental plan at 6.30am when he walks the dogs.'

"Sometimes I like to watch the way the dogs runs and jump. They like to do their own thing but seldom play together - and I think, yeah, that'll work. It's up to the dogs what they do when they are let off the lead. It's not my fault if they go and sh*t all over the park." Said Sparky, allegedly!

Never knowingly right.

That sounds as if i he already knows he will be fired regardless what happens on Saturday.

That was my immediate reaction too. Sounds like he is expecting the sack and is getting ready by starting to blame everyone else beforehand.

If he goes no doubt he will also have a 'pop' at the players, Tony Fernandes and the fans.

But I still want us to win on Saturday
