Cristiano Ronaldo 22:08 - Jun 27 with 8108 views | BrianMcCarthy | Delighted to see Ronaldo knocked out. It's a source of regret to me that his snarling, unsmiling, selfish demeanour has influenced a generation or two of kids, that his arrogant goal celebrations have caught on, that his constant bitching at team-mates (once considered, quite rightly, to be beyond the pale) now goes without a comment. I hope the Player of the Tournament, whoever it may be, will have far better ethics than him.

Goodbye Cristiano and your deathly dull team and manager. Hopefully back in 3 years with a progressive manager who might have a clue what to do with the riches they have and not rely on an ageing superstar who is now quite good at penalties.

He deserved another tournament after the last one.

Cristiano Ronaldo on 23:27 - Jun 27 with 3484 views | numptydumpty | Crikey Lot of hatred for the man on here He clearly an extreme example of a professional and he obviously gets wound up by team mates making errors that he would never regularly do. Hence why he at the top of the tree. He don't like losing. Can't see that being a dreadful trait when he competing at the highest level of a professional sport . Would I have him as a mate, clearly not, but he clearly has incredible commitment and passion for the game and seen as he one the best exponents of the beautiful game, if he gets a bit big Billy big boots, understandable.. Someone like Mr Adel could have had the career Ronaldo has had, but pizza, cakes and r and r had more importance to him. Find this thread weird and bizarre !!!

That said, he’s the only person to play in, captain and manage a side in the same game to lift the European Championships; while reffing the match and running one of the lines at the same time. Quite a phenomenal achievement given he also subbed himself off following a self-diagnosis of injury.

May I add David Beckham to that list? Even during his so called best ever match against Greece he wasted 7 or 8 Free kicks before scoring that one. Its been forgotten, for obvious reasons, that Teddy Sheringham had 'a word' with him before THAT free kick...

It's not hatred, numptydumpty, not hatred at all. I just have no respect for some of his behaviour.

Me too. Whatever you might think of him as a person (or believe of him.) For me he is the best footballer of his generation, Messi and Modric come close (and I'd always choose the latter for my team.) But Ronaldo has done the business for three of the top teams in the world in three of the top leagues in Europe over his career. Sure he's arrogant, but it'd be hard not to be with his resumé and skill set. And yes, his road is winding to its conclusion, as everyone's does. If he'd been French, Italian, Spanish or German he'd maybe have won more trophies playing with team-mates who were closer to him in quality. As it is he's always been Billy Big Bollox on Portugal's team, because no one else there can match him in quality. He's also never been the type of player who makes his team-mates look better (unlike Modric,) largely because he's fundamentally a striker and they just aren't in that business. But really, he's more than a bit good, and I don't know how you can say he isn't.

Cristiano Ronaldo on 07:34 - Jun 28 with 2998 views | Juzzie | No doubting his talent, achievements etc but for me I just don’t like the fact he insists on taking the 5th penalty in shoot outs. That’s putting himself first over his team every time so he can get all the glory. It’s been said many times you have your best penalty takers go first. Score the goals, take the pressure off the others. No, not him.

A lot of strange things have happened in a number of sports in recent years with people managing to extend careers into their late 30s- footballers tennis players athletes etc. Afraid it is endemic due to the ££££ involved.

Agreed mate.....some proper strange stuff. Basically, a brilliant player who expects. Nothing wrong with that!!! Free kicks have been very special. These are the people that 'creamed' themselves over Adel!!!!

Taking penalties in shoot outs are not as you are suggesting, taking the last penalty can be very pressurised indeed. Normally, an agreed order by all involved.
Cristiano Ronaldo on 08:09 - Jun 28 with 2902 views | Northernr | The free kick thing is funny. Scored one of his last 52. Basically lives off one knuckle ball against Portsmouth more than a decade ago. Reminds me of when Barton used to insist on taking all of ours.

Come on Norf.....he has scored from some proper free kicks. He was a top top player. I doubt if Barton insisted on taking the free kicks so he took them, it would have been agreed within the staff and players.
