Although I remember seeing Jamaica play in the WC in France I wasnt aware that Paul Hall played. We are fortunate to have him.
| Paul Hall — Patreon on 21:48 - Mar 28 with 3050 views | aston_hoop | Really enjoyable listen, comes across as a really knowledgeable bloke about player development and what it takes. A lot of the players who have come through the system have spoken highly of him too which says a lot. One thing I do have to mention, he went into a bit about the gap between U23s and first team not being as much as is made out. Given that Warbs always goes on about it being a huge gap, it did make me wonder if he thought maybe 1 or 2 of them should have had more of a chance! Or perhaps I read too much into that. | |

I do think Bettache has been unlucky not to get more game time, he looked good last season

I too found myself reading between the lines. But to play devils advocate, there is no doubt quite a difference between “able to play” at the level (e.g. a Kakay, a Hamalainen) vs “able to impact” (e.g. a Dieng, a Chair). And this is likely the difference in perspective of Warburton and co at first team level. Perhaps a few could be considered as able, but not necessarily impactful. In other words, the quality of the side does not benefit from their inclusion / is not enhanced - the main 1st team goal? Ps. Great feature Clive, thanks. [Post edited 29 Mar 2022 12:48]

Haha! I don’t disagree, I’ve said before I feel we’ve deviated too much from our development strategy

Thirded. And Duke McKenna - for a side so palpably lacking energy in recent weeks I just don't get that one.
| Paul Hall — Patreon on 15:09 - Mar 31 with 1534 views | PhilmyRs | Good interview. Thought it was interesting how he emphasised the special care provided to Eze and how it was more than just about a footballing education with him. Also thought it was interesting the point about the diversity of the coaching set-up and how it was a definite positive in terms of conveying key messages to our youth team, a number of which are black/mixed race. Think Hall himself said something about when they look at him they see someone from a similar background and what can be achieved. Being a club, located in one of the most diverse parts of London, I do think having a coaching set-up that reflects the community in which it serves is no bad thing and in a selfish way could help retain, even bring in, some quality talent for us. If I was a young, black coach trying to forge my way in the game, I’d certainly be using this to my advantage in any job interview for a London based club. Would Eze of failed at Millwall had a Paul Hall been helping oversee his development? | | | |

As I said on the audio, I always find those questions difficult to ask as a middle class white guy, but they have to be asked and often illicit the best answers.
