Good news but we'll need bubble wrap knowing our players in internationals

Never knowingly right.

I looked at the headline and my first thought was,is Richard Dunne still playing?Old age is a strange thing.

Festy Ebosele is also in the squad. I didn’t realise he was Irish. Hails from Ennischorty. Has looked useful when I’ve seen him play for Derby. Might be worth a cheeky bid - ah I see Udinese have got in there first.

Anyway well done Jimmy Dunne.

Quite a few Ireland internationals with Nigerian heritage.

One little concern is whether Jimmy is fit enough. Anyone know if he was officially on standby and training to maintain fitness levels?

Great that will be £20m to you as Eze cost that and he was not even in the England squad back then.

Dunne was not free, but I think he cost buttons (£400k) so, this is great news. Also, pushes up Dickie's price as well.

zzzzzzzzzz

Good news, although we are well off for CB"s (and GK's) so he is a bit down the pecking order. Good experience for him though. Not sure if he was on official standby as they lost Duffy and Egan. Hope he was keeping himself fit as it's a long time since our last game and very easy to pick up a hamstring or ligament injury if not fully fit

After hiding under the sofa due to our previous 2 games I watched the excellent highlights against Scotland and was impressed Myke.
However this playing out from the back appears to be a work in progress so hopefully Dunne will just be on the bench .
Even if he keeps himself in top shape its still too much of a risk IMO

The difference against Scotland was they actually scored a couple of first half goals. We started very brightly in both the previous games, but didn't score and you could see them becoming more nervous as the game progressed. You are right about the 'play out from the back' being a work in progress though. If the Villa midfielder had taken either of those early chances, it could have been same old' same old. At least after last season, Dunne will be used to playing out from the back and the consequential heart in mouth moments when they fook it up! Like you, I would prefer if he didn't play, but it would be interesting to see him play alongside Collins, who must have been one of the reasons why Dunne decided to leave Burnley last summer

Eze was about to be called up to the English squad whereas Dunne was called up because the current Irish CBs are injured.

Not even on the bench.

Really disappointed about that.

Is Dara O'Shea better than Dunne?

And we seem to have two goalies on the bench and no centre-back, so it's Dunne that misses out?

Nathan Collins has just put us 1-0 up with a marauding dribble from centre back which Rob Dickie would have been proud of.

On as a sub. One nice through-ball which Parrott wasted, otherwise trotting around in familiar fashion.

1-1.

About right.
Cracking game.

I'm going to credit John Eustace with the improvement in performances over the past week. The change to a 5-3-2 formation in the last 2 games had his fingerprints all over it.

O Shea was certainly better than Dunne 18 months ago prior to his serious injury. Whether that is still the case, not sure, but can understand why Kenny would go with him. As said earlier, we are blessed with goalkeepers and defenders ( the latter for any formation - including some tasty looking wing-backs) Further up the pitch, midfield still looks little light, especially DCM, but our attacking options are increasing all the time. No sign of another Robbie Keane on the horizon, but we managed to be pretty competitive with 20 goal a career strikers before Keane came on the scene and I am quietly optimistic that we are heading into a similar era again, with a much easier on the eye style than 'put 'em under pressure'

My take.

Goalies - well equipped (potentially great, none of them proven yet)
Centre-Backs - no great centre-back at the moment, a few sound ones
Full/Wing-backs - none at all at present, Coleman too old, Doherty a mystery, McClean a drop-in, Festy a possibility.
Centre-Mid - Cullen always impressive, Knight promising, Molumby inconsistent but also promising.
Up Front/Wings - Parrott hugely talented finisher but taking too long to mature in basic skills and decision-making, Obafemi only starting out, Ogbeni unlikely, Hogan we know about, Robinson as lazy and as pointabouty as ever, Connolly an enigma.

With that in mind, I think the management are doing well to coax hard-working and generally cohesive performances from what they have.

I think we have some potential, but right now we have no world-class player, no great player and loads of attitude. And a nice style of play.

I'll take that.

Connolly is not only an enigma, he's a bit shit.

Hope that helps.

I will never understand calling up a player ,taking him to another country and not even making the bench. Its no good to Dunne ,he would have been better served staying on the beach that wasting 3 days for what ? experience .
I cannot see him nailing down a place right now in ROI unless he continues to excel for QPR then his chances improve .
