Unused sub for Aldershot who are in the National league! Really thought we had a player there, always neat and tidy on the ball maybe not?

Likewise always thought he had something to offer.

Funny old game, Saint.

Whenever I see the term neat and tidy I think of five a side football.

Honestly never saw anything special in him and didn't really understand the praise he was getting.

Shame these players are being loaned out and not getting games.

Never knowingly right.

If they were good enough they would be getting games. Can't really be loaned out much lower to get games.

Several years ago one of our U23s players (can't remember who) in an interview on the offy said the player most expected to succeed was Bettache. Sadly he's simply not pushed on since.

His Oldham loan last season did not go well and this season's loan at Aldershot, in a lower division, sadly seems to be going the same way. It's not unusual for young players to hit a development ceiling and go no further.

Yes, they need a bit more than being 'neat and tidy on the ball' especially if there not a large physical specimen.

Sadly, it looks like he is heading for being released at the end of his contract.

Seems to have gone backwards since that loan at Oldham.

I wouldn't expect either him, Ody Alfa nor Charlie Owens to be here any longer than their current contracts.

I'm more disappointed that Drewe, Gubbins and Masterson didn't get loan deals.

In summary, Sinclair Armstrong aside, there doesn't seem be the next batch of two or three coming through the youth system in this cycle. It's a poor crop.

It makes signings like Dixon-Bonner all the more important.

I should also point out that both Dieng and Chair were signed when we were part of the EU. I don't think we'd be able to pick either under today's rules - which is a scary thought.

Anyone decent we get at under 16 gets picked off though. Being a "2nd chance" club for top academy talent that has not broken through at the top clubs is a sensible strategy though.

Dieng is Swiss, so no change on that count.

Qualifies for Morocco but grew up in Antwerp before heading to UK.

Not sure it's any easier/harder to get a job here from Belgium or Morocco.

In football terms it can be, there's a points system for signing players. For instance Paal qualifies because he played a large number of games the past season in the top flight in the Netherlands which is considered one of the top leagues. Chair played two games in the Belgian second flight before we signed him which wouldn't qualify him for a work permit now. Technically what you say is right though, Belgian second division or Moroccan league, either one he wouldn't be able to join.
