This news is unbelievable. Saw The Specials in 2019 they absolutely smashed it - Terry was on top form, no Jerry Dammers but boy were they good.

RIP Terry thanks for the great times and tunes.

Aw, shit. What a talent, a great band leader and a superb songwriter across so many genres.

Rest easy, Mr. Hall.

RIP

I saw them live on Jools a few years ago they were brilliant absolutely rocked the place.

Sadly what you hear watching on the tele is nothing like the 16/18 way live system in the studio.

This makes me unbelievably sad.

TwoTone was my absolute revelation to popular music and whereas Dammers was always the man, the vocals of Terry Hall shaped my life.

Saw the remnant Specials as recently as 2019 in East London and he was typically dry, witty and poignant. Everything we always loved him for.

This will take me some time to process.

Thought it was bad when when we lost Brad (dummer John Bradbury) but this is something else.

The Specials were aptly named, a great band. Sad news indeed.

Gutted. One of the greats and gone way too soon.

Saw them twice here in Sydney and they were sensational.

Absolutely stunned by this news. Saw The Specials at the London 2012 Olympus closing ceremony concert at Hyde Park. They were second last on the bill to Blur. They totally owned the stage that day. God bless you Terry Hall. RIP. You for one did not do too much too young.

Wow, utterly shocked and gutted by this news.

The same sick feeling I felt when we lost another legend in Alan Mcdonald.

Too much too young

What a shame. was in a pub on saturday, there was a staff do and dj going on. Anyway, he put some 2-tone on, the place was jumping. Talking to my mate, who is my age, and we were saying how lucky we were that, as we got to an age to appreciate music, we had The Specials, The Beat etc.
Top bloke, top music

One of the essential sounds of my youth and of the British music scene. This is hard to put into perspective. Blimey. Gonna have a drink for you tonight Terry x

The emergence of Two Tone at the same time as I was developing into a cocky kid meant I feel privileged to have been part of a few musical movements.
Jerry Dammers and the gang set me on the way and, ergo, Mr Hall a HUGE part of that.

I’ll never forget my mum driving her white mini with her mate in the front seat and me and my sister in the back; going across the South Downs and it was so foggy she could only do about 15MPH. Ghost Town comes on the wireless and I reached forward and turned it up - I was mesmerised and hooked.

Watching them live on stage was immense.
Whenever you saw Terry he was unashamedly “vulnerable”…. What he’d been through was terrible but he knew it and confronted it. The video clip below I’ve chosen one of my favourite. They loved the stage invasions when they played this at the end and if you can do this with a load of Swiss well it shows the showmen talent in the band.

Thanks for the good times TH….. we were in the pink

RIP

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Loved the Specials. He did a nice song in the 90’s which I think is largely forgotten called Sense.

RIP TerryHall

I was lucky enough to see them third on the bill at one of those Lyceum Sunday shows, about the time Gangsters came out. I knew nothing about them, but I was completely knocked-out. As a grumpy barely-teen, I went for rage and pain in my music, and though they had plenty of both, I had never seen anything so brilliantly entertaining before, and hardly since. Incredible to think half of them were teenagers themselves. RIP Terry.

Wonderful band from a great era. I saw them many times but the most memorable was when they played Ghost Town for the first time. Very different to their normal stuff at the time and a seminal track.

RIP Terry.
