| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 20:43 - Jan 12 with 1151 views | daveB | really good report as ever, I'm sat here a day later just wishing we'd have won it rather than brave losers again. I'm terrible with player ratings so 5 is probably about right but I thought Smyth had a decent game to be honest, threw himself to the floor a bit too often but never stopped running up and down that wing, really helped defensivley and did well to create the chance he almost scored from. | | | |
| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 20:52 - Jan 12 with 1091 views | MrSheen | Great report on a proud but ultimately futile effort. Personally, I thought the turning of the tide in the second half was at least as much down to Soucek's introduction as our players tiring. He had the ball speeding out to wide forward positions after his colleagues had been happy to pass it among themselves with an eventual punt forward up to then. It just meant we were pressed right back with so much further to go to goal when we ever got it back. | | | |

Yeh, from the people who said we should call Javier Hernandez “Chicarito”. Into the sea.
| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 21:29 - Jan 12 with 816 views | Lblock | Great stuff and to echo two points: 1. I thought the ref was terrible - very obviously seduced by “ooooooh, a big old Premiership club”. His lack of authority over the West Ham players was a disgrace. 2. Replays. These are sadly missing from what used to be a magical competition. I know we’ve largely sacked it off for decades but I see so often the bigger clubs wrongly being given a chance to roll out big guns to finish lower clubs off rather than another plum tie occurring. Having said that, thank god we haven’t got a replay to contend with on our sand dune pitch - would’ve had to put out either the cast of Casualty or Grange Hill | |

| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 21:37 - Jan 12 with 749 views | ManinBlack | I wondered what the road runner had to do with yesterday but I suppose he didn't get struck down with hamstring injuries like our team. An interesting take about Soucek seizing the initiative from us when he came on. I thought we just reverted back to the low block game of the first half once we got level. I hadn't considered we had run out of steam. I just felt a better team than us would have gone for a second goal as the Hammers were rocking at that stage and we let them back in the game dropping back. This is the problem when we haven't got our best team on the pitch. Some West Ham fans making out online they were passing the ball around the back in the first half to keep warm as we offered no threat. After all that effort it was disappointing no replay to get more money in the coffers but we would still have to field a weakened team again against the Hammers if replays still happened. Good to see our fans enjoyed the day out but naturally I don't share the opinion of some we will get 6 points off West Ham next season. London derbies are a struggle for us and we are particularly poor away when it comes to winning. When do we ever take 6 points off Millwall? I am confident we won't win at the Valley to get 6 points off Charlton as a good probability some of our crocks will still be missing. I would not be surprised if one meeting with West Ham next season will be one of the four games played in the 10 days spell. Look how well that went for us the other week so it's very premature to say we will get 6 points against them. The timing of when we meet can play a huge part in the outcome. As for West Ham's ground it lacks the soul of Upton Park. But with owners it's all about making money so if you can get 60,000 in a stadium that cost you a fiver compared to 30,000 at the Boleyn, those gate receipts and season ticket sales gives you more finances to spend. Just seems to have gone wrong this season. [Post edited 12 Jan 21:39]

| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 22:13 - Jan 12 with 452 views | mart_Goblin | Terrific write up Clive . We just run out of legs and quality replacements didn’t we . Extremely proud of the effort from them all but as said, can’t help but once again wonder what might have been. 2 tiny things that I noticed (apologies if they have been mentioned before ) which just hints at the arrogance pouring out of premier league clubs like West Ham (for now ). Firstly , pre kick off, they name the West Ham team with fanfare and video memes and all sorts of over the type tripe….but didn’t even mention us over the PA. Not even a quick run through of our starting IX. Now, I don’t go to many away games anymore so maybe this is the norm? Maybe it’s a premier league thing? Just think it’s disrespectful to not even acknowledge there is an opponent. Secondly , to play Freed from desire over the pa at half time of extra time seemed beyond arrogant to me . Yes , that second goal put them in pole position , but that song is a ‘celebration ‘ song despite their version of it . If I was Stéphan , I would have gathered the players round and just said “listen, they think they’ve won this”. He probably didn’t even hear it of course , but I was praying that they’d done his team talk for him. Nitpicking of course . But my god I wanted to beat West Ham yesterday . I wanted to beat them so bad …standing among that army of Rangers . I was proud of the team and proud to be part of that incredible support . | | | |

| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 23:22 - Jan 12 with 154 views | Myke | Excellent reflection as always, Clive. I was completely wrong about the team selection. I was sure it would be stiffs v kids. Whether that was the right choice after losing Saito is another matter - reminds me of playing Jamie Mackie against ….Blackburn I think. But I am glad for you guys, you all deserved a proper day out and it sounds like you got one. The official attendance might be 9000, I wonder what the ‘unofficial ‘ attendance was? | | | |

It’s not just West Ham. I’ve been to other away matches where they don’t mention our line up at all. Maybe I miss an early read through but certainly for the announcement just before kick off there’s been a few that don’t announce our team. I thought it was pretty rubbish at the time.
| The rules of Road Runner – Report on 23:37 - Jan 12 with 108 views | queensparker | Spot on as always - we pretty much gave as much as that squad could and on another day would have kept the first half 0-0 and watched the fans turn on them. Can’t doubt the spirit in that team, unfortunately it looks like the hamstrings and ligaments aren’t keeping up My nine year old’s first away game and was a good one for him, loads of other kids there, wasn’t moody, he got to see the dystopian new east London megatropolis, we got a goal for him to cheer and he got to see a big ground where, as he said “we were much louder than them weren’t we?” Once we actually got in the ground I thought it was alright but my god the fkin faff to get in and out was Ryanair level. Left Sadlers Wells bar at 1.50 right outside the entrance and missed the kick off by 10 minutes (50 minutes later) to get patted down in the most perfunctory way by no less than three security checks. Why? Fk that [Post edited 12 Jan 23:42]
