Good piece.
For me there's one question mark that neither you or Zac considered.
You both seem to suggest that if we can get him on the pitch he will still be the player that was burning up and down the flanks for Brighton.
But can we be sure about that?
We don't know how much a succession of lengthy serious injuries will have taken away from his game.
If he's committing high up the pitch to support attacking play but no longer has the pace to get back when the opposition break on us that could be a very big weakness that other Championship teams will quickly spot and exploit.
I really hope this works for him and us, but I'm really not confident about it. |  | | |

Yeh, Michael Owen syndrome, player wo relies on pace but has bad hamstrings. Not a good combination.
But I think that again comes under the risk/reward thing. If we've give this lad a four year contract on big money then we're idiots, but if it's a reasonably small outlay I don't mind us taking a gamble on a player who plays in a position where we already have a regular starter and cover (of sorts). | | | |

He may say he loves tackling but his legs are saying something different.
Also, at 5 foot 4, championship opposition are more likely to test his aerial capabilities and not sure we should be adding to that defensive issue.
I’m guessing he’ll know Vale and his game from his Chelsea days but, for continuity sake, I’d rather keep Mbengue at RB and let this fella fight it out with his unfit comrades who masquerade as right wingers for the place in front of him. |  | | |

There are, as always, a lot of unknowns with a signing of this type but I feel it is one worth making. We don't have contract details, so making calls about financial exposure are pointless: I can't believe we'd go into it without contingencies in place.
The potential up-side, however, just feels too good to ignore. We aren't cash-rich and any funds from Eze, Field et al and the financial headroom created by releases and sales isn't going to allow for a big spend.

Absolute no brainer to have signed him as its pretty risk free and if we hadn't signed him it would have been a missed opportunity. With Mbengue pretty robust we shouldn't need to rush him into the team either.
Fingers crossed he turns into the Six Million Dollar Man. If he doesn't, what have we lost? |  |

For me the risk is when Mbengue is inevitably suspended or, worse, injured and Lampty is unavailable. I don't want to see Adamson at RB, moving Dunne or Edwards there weakens our central defence, and Morrison isn't suited to deputising at RB.
Of course I want to see him play games. He's clearly a brilliant player and even getting a dozen matches out of him would give us a great edge. But, but, but... |  | | |

On the videos he played down the left as well, is this perhaps a cover for both FB’s?
I can only hope that at 25 his body is past all growing pains and stronger now, making him more resilent and less injury prone. Very very interested to see how this one turns out. |  | | |

He may have come here on a 'free' transfer but he will have been paid a hefty 'signing on' fee. You can speculate just how much, just as many have about his fitness, but overall if the contract is 'good' for QPR then I think he is a decent signing.
We will just have to wait and see but he certainly has/had enough ability to play Championship football and better. | | | |
