Paul Smyth back out on loan 12:47 - Sep 22 with 4682 viewsbosh67

In various papers about him going out on loan again. Seems a bit mad really considering he's looked sharp and at it in his sub performances so far. Plus we are risking a horrible lack of options if Manning or/and BOS go. Hope it's paper talk?

Never knowingly right.

Playing for the U23s v Ipswich this afternoon. Strong team we've put out.

Barmy he's gone from young player of the year to not being picked for 2 years. We need to give him a chance this season

yes, he has looked sharp and put in decent balls, I want to seen him play, he also ads a bit of friction and fire on the field, i certainly wouldnt send him on load until sure whats happening with BOS and any potential incoming replacement

If he goes out on loan again I'd guess thats him finished at QPR. A shame as when he burst onto the scene he looked like he had something about him, but those who have seen him in training over the last 2 years know more I guess.

Hopefully he stays and makes a good fist of being a QPR player though.

Agree that it is strange to send him out on loan as I think most fans rate him.
In fact i would like to see him start a few games..
Maybe the striker coming in needs to start but I get the feeling he is not been given a fair chance.
It appears obvious the opposition have big problems dealing with him I do not understand.why he wasn't picked at Wycombe and why he does not get more chance now

Seems to be ahead of Shodipo.

If, we are brining in another winger like Jordon Jones, then before loaning out Smyth we should loan out Shodipo. I think for loans we can pick and choose em, as clubs seem to be asking us for players down the leagues from what Warbs said.

Smyth should stay in the squad unless BOS signs with another winger. Which I doubt will happen. So, Smyth should stay then, he's ready.

zzzzzzzzzz

rather than sending him out on loan again, with his contract ending next summer, then why wouldn't we just give him away for free and include a sell on percentage .

Apparently he has an assist and won a penalty so far, Oteh scoring both goals (and missing the penalty)

For me I do find it strange how managers have been quite quick to jduge him on very little game time, for me given how he looked in pre-season he'd be well worth a run

Think he was out a lot with injuries during his loan at Wycombe.

My memories of Smyth are that he seemed to disappear from games when given more time on the park, lively in a short substitute appearance but less so the longer he played. Hopefully he has improved now.

5-0 in the U23 game.
A sign of how we shouldn't react too much to scores at that level (win or lose).

Bare bones.

Might it simply be that Smyth (signed in Jul 2017, breakthrough in Jan 2018) just isn't what Warburton (arrived May 2019) rates/wants, with injuries compounding the situation?

The only thing I saw was that a few Div 1 sides have asked to be notified if he comes up for sale.

I don't doubt that Warburton doesn't rate him I just don't know what that's based on when he's never picked him and find it all a bit disapointing

A friend of mine who works at Leeds and is also from Ireland says they are keeping tabs on him to bring him on if it doesn't work out here. If Leeds and the Northern Irish national team set up still think he still has something to offer then it seems a bit foolish for us to not be pushing the peddle down hard to bring him along. He has blistering pace and he can finish. I'd like to see him finally come through with us. He's only 23.

Never knowingly right.

The squad is pretty thin we can hardly afford to lose players of his quality Like others I can’t figure why Warbuton doesn’t give him a start

How many managers haven’t picked him and / or decided to send him out on loan?

It must be at least two or three. Maybe it’s to do with his size or could be something else but Warburton isn’t the first to decide he’s surplus to requirements.

Think he scored on his debut for Wycombe last season and then picked up a nasty injury. With Wycombe motoring and playing a very direct style he found it hard to get back in. I like him, good work rate and brings a bit of an 'edge'. Think he would be competing with Thomas for a spot though.

I have to say I've never been too sure about him. Love his attitude and he has some speed but not sure he's ready for this division. Shame he had so many injuries while at Wycombe.

Being sold is indicative of being 'surplus to requirements', going out on loan not so. Or at least not anymore, nowadays it seems to be an accepted part of their development. Football has changed considerably; once upon a time being released on a 'free' was the ultimate insult for a player -Bosman has changed all that.

whatever you think of him good or bad I do think we'd be mad to loan out a player with first team experience when we have so many games this season in short bursts. That goes for the likes of Gubbins and bettache as well. May well be better for their development to play but club need to make sure they have enough bodies to cover injuries, illness etc
