Delighted for them. It will be emotional, I'm sure.

I was an unused cup final sub there when I could run. Bad memories.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Funny you should bring that thread up. I'm working on site here at moment. We have to leave by 3.00 o'clock as they need to prep for kick off. Just to say the place ain't remotely finished . So just as well there's no fans allowed. Cracking little ground by the way and there fans deserve it!!

Drove past ground yesterday and was puzzled it was opening tonight, as you say, didn’t look anywhere near finished though forgot about absence of spectators.

Good luck to them, fantastic achievement getting a new ground after all that the clubs been through.

I guess without spectators they can still host games there as long as changing rooms and a few other essential things are done. I'd imagine office staff etc are still based at Kingsmeadow (or wherever it's done from) and of course there's no need for catering, merchandising, corporate things to be finished just yet. Will probably still be better than the Ricoh was when we went there for opening day.

Yes, to 20K if needed.
Good idea, no point in rattling around in a 1/3 full stadium.
IF (and it’s a bit if) we get a new stadium we should do the same, say 25K with the possibility of increasing to 35-40K in the future.

And you came back.

Which proves that fans are family and not 'consumers'.

The stadium has an initial 9,300 capacity, but planning permission has been granted for that to increase to 20,000. There will be around 100 wheelchair spaces too.

Build cost £32million.

Edit just noticed hantssi's post.

Wimbledon drew 2-2 btw, and in other non trump news Shodipo scored tonight for Oxford.

The place was never "remotely finished" when it was a top flight ground, when it would have been a bloody sight better if no fans were allowed (away ones anyway) so I think you can be pretty proud of what you've built so far.

They should be proud. The work that remains to be done is around the perimeter and the concourses.
They have some excellent hospitality boxes and frankly I'm jealous considering our own predicament and though I love loftus Road its time we upgraded although that's a long way off.

You know the flats built on the original site are all named after famous players. Cork House, Bassett House, Laurie House etc. None of the occupiers have a scooby.

Yep we were terrible. However, because it was my first ever Rangers away game I still have fond memories of it. It's a bit like stockholm syndrone I guess

Shame they've built on the greyhound/stock car track to do it though. Rather spoilt it for me

Not sure who reported abuse on my post but just to clarify that it was poorly worded but meant as a compliment. I was at that game and it was dire, but fans are loyal and more than just punters. So they come back for more.

It's a bit like Spurs - brilliant stadium in the middle of a shithole.

But clubs' fans rarely live in the immediate surround of the stadium these days.

And wrt to PaddyHoops post about the "luxury boxes", I'm sure I read somewhere that Wimbledon fans had the highest average income of any London club.

That must have stood to them in building the club initially, and now the stadium, and bodes well for the future.

Good Luck to 'em!

When we were back in the PL in 2011 after a 13 year gap, the visit to WHL was the first time I'd been back in that part of London. It wasn't good beforehand but my god it was awful.
Some of the streets have those great big terraced houses but they were all run down.
It made Shepherds Bush/Uxbridge Road look positively affluent.

Pleased for their supporters but i could'nt stand the 'crazy gang' thought they were a bunch of thugs.I once shouted at Mick Harford toward the end of career 'your getting a bit old for
this Mick' he looked at me in the paddock and replied 'yeh but im still on the pitch and your
in the f-----g stand' fair point i suppose.
