He may not have wanted to commit long term and we decided to sign him short-term anyway in the hope that he'd see sense and stay with us. I'm also not sure how long the contracts given to U18 players are, this might be standard. |  |

I'm sure its been said elsewhere but if he is getting the right advice he should be able to see a pathway to the first team, one which he wouldn't get at a Man City. Chasing a payday over sustained development is a foolish path that alot of young starlets attempt to go for only to be loaned out until they have outstayed their welcome.

Come on down Josh Bowler - who/whose agent, despite having a name just one consonant removed from a club legend, decided it was only worth his playing for us for literally 15 minutes or so before 'developing' at Hull City via a disappearing act at Everton's U23s (where he is now somehow injured). You really couldn't make up modern football. He's now nearly 22 and has played fewer than 30 pro games, for the record - barely one for every year of his life. Clive should really do an interview with him + agent, and just divide it into easy sections: 'development' (with quotation marks), greed, stupidity and the modern game. (I'll supply the hissing.) On the other hand a slightly better deal for the club. Everton paid us £4 million for him so we did quite well out of that one. About 5 times what we got for BOS. | |
