I loved him on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, which has now lost him, Humphrey Littleton, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Jeremy Hardy over the last few years. Have to agree with all of this. He was a brilliant comedy performer but an even better comedy writer. I am sure there will be lists of stuff he wrote in the next few days.

When I lived round the corner, I used to go along to BBC TV Centre to be in studio audience for various comedy stuff.
Went to many episodes of The Stand Up Show which was a sort of forerunner to Live at the Apollo.
Saw Bill Bailey, Dave Gorman, Al Murray Pub Landlord, various others.
Barry Cryer was the host and most of the time he’d also be there as the warm up man getting the studio audience laughing before the filming started.
A very funny bloke, he was quite often the best one on the show! |  | | |

Yes, lived in Hatch End and was a regular in The Moon and Sixpence Wetherspoons. Always ready for a chat and joke. If he wasn't working he'd often get in there for about 1pm and leave about 4.30 to weave his way across the railway bridge back home to The Avenue.
