"you do unfortunately have to wonder… if you can’t beat Sunderland, Blackpool and Rotherham at this level then who, exactly, are you going to beat?"

It's QPR Clive. Probably everyone else.

Never knowingly right.

Completely agree that Willock early on looked like a game too early for him, surprised he was hooked on 80, perhaps should have been earlier.

Don’t know what you thought of the challenge on SJ as you would gave had a similar view to me but from slightly further away. Looked horrible to me and he originally tried to ‘Ainsworth’ it.

6 for Seny seems a little harsh, especially when you see the clown that gets picked ahead of him for Senegal. Not sure what he did wrong yesterday. A 7 from me.

Rotherham like nearly all clubs will have a fair few ‘exiles’ in London but definitely fair play if they travelled down from S. York’s. Made a decent noise despite their numbers and did not resort to that annoying Yaarkshire chant that you get from most fans from God’s own county [sic]k.

Difficult to give Dieng a 7 when he had nothing to do.

Thanks Clive a very fair assessment. The foul on Sinclair where he was hauled down I thought Chuckles didn't see it at the time. Such a blatant foul very frustrating. The Laird penalty he did go down very easily and I didn't think it was a pen myself. Again I've not seen it back and as you say these close decisions rarely seem to go our way.

Good point about referees. It's at crisis point. Although I do think the system must be at fault. How these guys go through the ranks is not working. Maybe it's the assessors who aren't good enough. Something isn't working. I can honestly say I've come across better refs in my son's youth team football than ones in the Championship at the moment: young guys who've got authority, don't make it about themselves, explain decisions and then move on, aren't influenced by the lippiness of some of the players.

Maybe refs need to be on rolling contracts rather than employed, as the more experienced guys seem to be the worst at the moment, certainly at our level. Maybe there needs to be a competitive recruitment process rather than moving up through the leagues. Possibly the assessors need to be ex pros as well as ex refs.

I just don't believe that any unbiased observer could mark that performance highly yesterday. And yet he'll be reffing next week, and the week after, smile on his face, bicycle clips in his pocket, carnage in his wake. And the thing is it's not just him, it's week after week, inconsistent decisions, new initiatives that they bin after a couple of weeks, insisting on a free kick being taken at the correct blade of grass, and then five minutes later allowing the other team to steal ten yards in a thrown in. One week a game without much incident - six minutes extra time. The following week, injuries, lots of substitutions, time wasting extraordinaire - four minutes extra time. Why? Just why?

Might be an idea, to alleviate the time wasting issue, for us to score first.

Thought Laird made a meal of the challenge which doesn’t help penalty appeals. Didn’t notice the handball. I was more worried the hack down of the Rotherham player right on the edge of the penalty area was going to be given as a penalty.

I think we’re clutching at straws lately. We’re simply not playing like a side that thinks it can win.

Player ratings aside (I don't pay too much attention to them, although it seems some here really do!) re Seny is it's great to have his distribution back - couple of times on Saturday his kicking created good attacking opportunities for us. Really missed that when he was out injured.

Bit of a gulp moment for me when you wrote at the end "if you can’t beat Sunderland, Blackpool and Rotherham at this level then who, exactly, are you going to beat?" But then I remembered it's the Championship - everyone beats everyone else

Frustrating as Saturday was, the positives still outweigh the negatives I think. On to the next one...

Who are you going to beat?

Middlesbrough. And they were one of the pre season tips.
Typical QPR or typical Championship?

Same as most seasons, lose to who you shouldn't, beat who you shouldn't. Last year, 1 point from four games against Barnsley and Peterborough.

I have to say chanting for SInclair Armstrong has me doing an ever louder Marge Simpson hmmmmmmm. They're starting before the 60th minute now.

He has such a bright future but he is so so so so raw technically, I really worry about how we're acting around him.

Just have a look at the debate between Pinner Paul and I on the "Officials Tonight" thread last week. With the refs and their bosses, it's all about finding reasons not to do what they are paid to do. It's no longer about enforcing the LOTG. I said it there, I can't reasonably find a way to describe the state of officiating as anything other than corrupt.

I think it was the one off the ball? He was making a run through the middle as we broke forward, blatantly body checked by one of their players.

It was in the second half. From memory Laird was put through into the right side of the box and he got ahead of their player and went down.

We’re 5 games in now, not panic stations, but early enough to be able to see some trends emerging.

We keep hearing how we’ve had some big moments, which if we convert makes a different outcome more likely. Well yet again we didn’t, and it wasn’t. Clive proposed his granny last week as a potential solution. To not even be considered Bonne must have really, like really, upset someone.

We’ll be better when we have everyone back and fit and available. Currently that list is JCS, Amos and Richards. But will we only get results when we have everyone fit and available? For every game over a whole season? That never happens for any team, ever. Most weeks you have to make do with the A minus team.

Beale was asked a question in post-match interview about defending set pieces and his answer was that we need to take more of our chances when we get them. It should have been we’re not scoring goals so we need to do everything possible to make sure we need to stop leaking them (4 now) from set pieces at the other end. We’ve decided to change that nonsense tactic immediately as nobody is ever going to say ‘Chair header clears an opposition corner from the centre of his own box’.

Based on all the evidence so far, does anyone seriously believe this is a team that will be challenging at the top of the table come March?

We were better than Tues (the Willock factor, we’ll be rightly screwed playing wise if he does leave this transfer window or has any further setbacks) and we got the reward for it, but a point is not much to show for two ‘winnable’ home games.

Yeah I felt Laird was looking for it really. I mean some refs might give it, but not Woolmer.

Thanks Clive.

I thought Ogbene was fantastic on Saturday . Looked like Sinclair only +5 years and all the experience etc..

If I had a spare few million I would be buying him.
