A general belief in being superior in our support despite all available knowledge of average ness. This website being a sandpit for drunken shit. All Rangers fans being Rangers fans. Apart from the few c unts on Twitter. King of Zumc untda. That’s you ya c unt. Retro Rs is brilliant. XTC are music. I am pissed. I know nothing about formations or the attributes of any player beyond 1996. But Rangers are my team. So whatchagonnado. Botoomplops.

I loved the name even when i found out it was the name of two villages in County Durham! I was also glad we never played against them, as writing their name out in full on all the different forms would have been exhausting!

| Queens Park Rangers on 08:52 - Oct 3 by slmrstid | The reason my Dad became a QPR fan as a kid from Northamptonshire was because of the name "Queens Park Rangers". It was different from all the "Towns" , "City's" and "United's" out there. |
The name and the blue and white hooped shirt were the only reasons I started supporting the club, I live no where near West London and have no connection to the club. 40 years later and various members of my family have followed me and now support QPR as well.

I detest the use of our initials & can't remember using them apart from in songs or chants. As an old man I have no memory of the media or supporters referring to us by them when I was younger, apart from the Football League calling the 1967 League Cup final the alphabet final! If asked, you always said you were going down The Bush or going down The Rangers! How often do you see PNE, WBA, WHU, FGR etc used as reference to those clubs? [Post edited 3 Oct 2020 10:29]

When I was a kid, Terryb, and you may remember this, it was WBA in the press. Then one season circa 1970, they wanted to be known as Albion. I don't think it caught on but they did seem to lose the use of WBA in the media. Leyton Orient also dropped the first bit of their name for a few years. However, that still sounded original and exclusive and I think they had other prefixes to Orient in their history. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

They were Clapton Orient at one time. I don't recall West Brom being called WBA except for the '67 League Cup final though.

| Queens Park Rangers on 14:58 - Oct 5 by Nov77 | From memory most people just said ‘Rangers’ when I started going in the seventies, which I’ve always preferred. Also recall motson and Barry Davies always calling us Rangers when commentating, it was only when sky came in that they kept referring to us with the full name, Andy gray especially. Why? We’re the only rangers in England and it’s not like anyone is daft enough to confuse us with the Scottish lot. |
"We’re the only rangers in England and it’s not like anyone is daft enough to confuse us with the Scottish lot." Not so - https://www.staffordrangersfc. And as their badge demonstrates, they were founded 6 years before QPR/Christchurch Rangers: My guess is that after the original "Rangers Football Club" was founded in 1872 (note no "Glasgow" in the name), the "Rangers" suffix became quite popular throughout Scotland and from there to England. There may well have been other "English Rangers" formed towards the end of the 19th century as well as Stafford and QPR, but which have since disappeared (or are well down the pyramid?)

You say that, but you could then have been nicknamed "The Kings" (better than "The R's"?). If nothing else, unimaginative sub-editors would never have been stuck for a headline for your match reports: "Kings Rule/Toppled at Palace!" (delete as appropriate)

| Queens Park Rangers on 11:56 - Oct 5 by Paddyhoops | Wonderful name for a football club. I always get an odd reaction from people when I say I support QPR ,especially from people on my native Ireland. One or two who would be a sectarian persuasion can't get thier head round why southern Irishman could support a football club with the names Queens and Rangers in it. You're looked upon as a bit of traitor to the cause. Thankfully this is a miniscule minority. People consider you a bit odd anyway you're not a follower of Man utd, Liverpool or a top six club . |
Just refer them to this lot, founded in 1887 (coincidentally the same year the other lot moved to Ibrox): https://www.crossrangers.com/c

I remember when WBA were known as that and I still use it for brevity when writing about them in the same way as I would use QPR. I remember when we played Slovan Bratislava and the commentator on BBC (Parry? Green?) stretched out our full name after one of our goals. Queeeens Paaaark Raaangers. It sounded awesome!

Your mention of Dungannon Swifts FC brought to mind two other clubs from that neck of the woods. Ballyclare Comrades FC were formed in 1919 by returning WWI veterans. And Harland & Wolff Welders FC were formed in 1965 by, well you can work it out yourself! Both clubs still going strong.

'Nemo' is Latin for 'Nobody' or 'No Name'. So called because at their foundation meeting they couldn't think of a name, so they called themselves No Name Rangers.
