Some players i really despise and very near the top of the list is Pontus Jansen. He always niggles, fouls, mouths off and in his despicable way does his best to get other players sent off etc.. Its not the fact that he does it , its the sheer cheek in the way he does it. Cant stand him.
Even in this seasons game he was up to his old tricks and I think he came on as a sub and was at it straight away. He's up there with David Speedie

This is not a case of berating him 3 minutes into the game. He is shocking, absolutely shocking. Absolutely beyond me how the hell you can even try and defend him. This is NOT a kid, it is a 25 year old who has now played 26 games in this league scoring ONE goal in open play.
He has NOT improved and (in my opinion) is getting worse. The team looked much, much better without him.
For balance, it may seem like I have been on his back, but I have been on Kane and Wallace's backs too. They combined magnificently for the winner and, blow me, look at Charlie's movement and anticipation to get where the ball came to. Neither Dykes nor Bonne score that.
So, yes, Charlie did a few things wrong in the first half, but he responded with a goal. Dykes had a couple of nice touches and passes in the tail end of the first half, but, like almost every game this season, he posed no threat going forward and did not threaten their goal.
Sorry for being on a downer after a fantastic win, but I genuinely don't get why people want to criticise me for this view. Yep, you may have a different view; fine, but someone please explain to me what Dykes did right tonight or on any appearance he has made to date.
For the record, the last three games, Wallace has been fantastic at left back (just to show that I can be persuaded otherwise).
As I say, not the night for it as it should be all good, but depending on him is going to blow up in our face. Sorry.

Maybe Dykes and Bonne aren't going to cut it but some of us are holding off on slagging them because frankly as a club we bloody need one of the punts to come off or we're back to square 1 in the summer. So it niggles a tad when some are straight on the case every bloody game especially if other players are getting cut slack, albeit ones who have credit in the bank. We can all see when they're having a mare, do we have to have all the eye-rolling? (Not saying you're not entitled, it's just that some of us don't want to go there, it doesn't mean we're clueless.)
FWIW Dykes record for Scotland still gives me some hope that he could come good though I'm painfully aware that Connor Washington scored loads for Norn iron.

Bl**dy brilliant win. Full on guts to come from behind, not letting heads drop, fully committed defending. Bless Kane for not letting his head drop (probably good that the crowds aren’t there!!) and putting that beauty of a cross field ball for Wallace who has been playing well of late. Great subs by Warbs. Great humdinger of a shot for Field’s goal. Johansen’s dodgy leg at the end of the game? sh*thousery at long last!!!
It wasn’t pretty for the most part, but there were moments of pure beauty and the result is what matters!! HAVE IT!!!

Good post. Think both you and Dav post valid points that aren’t actually in opposition to each other. They’re both justified at this point in time.
Most, if not all, of us are holding out for Dykes. Most genuinely want him to succeed. Nevertheless, he has been way off it so far in most of his 20+ games, and he doesn’t seem to be improving, so criticism is valid if not helpful.
I still hold hope it can click for him. There’s enough there, but he needs to start anticipating things better, moving off the ball more, and working harder to get into the end of passes and crosses.

I'm still holding out for him to come good too Cider. He has good/decent spells in games and does threaten to be better but there's a definite lack of quality in his technique and that's ultimately going to mean he is a Championship player. That's not necessarily a bad thing as a regular top ten team CF who is a good defensive prescience and works his socks off is worth far more than we paid for him while not looking to move on up the ladder, we can afford to keep him if we're in the top half ourselves. What we do need is for him to find that run of form he had for Scotland, getting the ball played into him, relatively long, and holding possession for the likes of McGinn, Fraser and Christie to pick up and move beyond him. Something that just hasn't happened with us, now is that the quality of ball up to him, quality of player linking or him not having the ability? It looks like a combination of all 3 and in the time he's been here we've now got Charlie as the main figurehead and we've changed the way we set up so he'll have to work hard and get himself back on form as I think he can be a good part of this improving squad. Any sidewinning 5 out of 6 is a squad performance and he's played a big part. Onwards and upwards!!

And you're not wrong on how a class act like Austin can be sub-par for some or all of a game but will still put away a chance when he gets one, and that's the difference.

Leeds fans were saying much the same about Bamford last season. He hasn’t been great in the last couple of games but there is definitely a player in Dykes. I hope fans will give him time.

So, first half, shocking, slow, ponderous, heisatant. always looking to turn back towards our own goals, even when five, or ten yards of space in front of us. Chair running into cul-de-sacs, Johanson anonymous, Ball clumsy, Dykes and Austin incohesive. Luckily Brentford were equally poor, after a bright opening few minutes and the game descended into a unstructured mess. Then we concede a soft goal (only seen it once on 'red button' yet, so not sure if anyone at fault, or Toney super sharp. Nothing much else happened, one decent save from Dieng, one shot blocked from Barbet, couple of yellow cards for Ball and Kane, couple of Chair corners not beating the first man. 58% possession and never laid a glove on them
Second half, different story. Brentford penned back in their own penalty area, Austin looking more interested, bal being moved forward purposefully. Dykes, still sadly anonymous. Couple of changes made nice and early, Ball, poor today, by recent standards. Field on. Dykes off for Willock, initially looked 'unbalanced' but with Chair playing more advanced and Willock stretching Brentford on the wing, we looked much more threatening. Ball in the box, Austin, to use a GAA expression 'breaking' the ball down, half -cleared and BAM, sweeeeeeeet strike into the corner by Field - what an introduction! (Red button so I've only seen it once...yet!) Couple of minutes later, peach of a ball to Wallace (who had a fine game) over to Kane, into the box, and BAM, heavily deflected shot from Austin, (only seen it once yak yak).
I was watching this on own in the bedroom, I have been in hospital twice in the past few weeks. When Austin scored, all three family members rushed upstairs to see if I was okay!! Last 15 minutes (+ 5, which was fair) we managed the game superbly. Had to get a ref who actually booked a keeper early for time-wasting of course , so my heart in my mouth a few times as Dieng dallied over goal-kicks and free kicks. Cameron showed all his experience by 'taking one for the team' after his own error. Then, quite deliciously, the ref took a set on Toney and pulled him everytime he breathed too heavily. WHAT A FANTASTIC WIN!!! Feel obliged to comment on the Dykes debate. I don't watch us too often, this is the first time since Millwall, and he has unfortunately regressed since then and regressed significantly since we played Brentford away. I had hoped that Austin would bring him on and initially that seemed true from the way it was reported that Austin was talking him through the Luton game. But I didn't see any sign of that cohesiveness between the two of them tonight. QPR (and Austin) improved after Dykes went off. I don't want to write him off, it could be purely a confidence thing, but the reality is, he never looked remotely like scoring tonight and for me, his famed work rate had dropped too. Worried about and for him.

That was my moment of the match - Johansen steaming across in the 90th minute to take out Rico Henry with a beauty to stop a breakaway, then staying down for a couple more minutes.

YES! Watching QPR is something to look forward to again aint it rather than to dread. For all the feedback that Johansen's legs had gone, I'm not seeing that at the moment.
Two hours of teaching on Zoom tonight, missed the game. Finished work and decided not to check the bloody football notification on my phone so I wouldn't ruin what was left of the evening....... eventually checked by accident!
