I think when it gets to a semi final both channels should show it regardless. I'm sure in 1990 both channels showed the England-W Germany game live although I think only ITV had the live rights to the 1996 Euros semi. I might be wrong...

Yes, I completely understand that they split the games evenly hence BBC would get a last 16 game and a QF should that happen as ITV have had two of the three group games, it's just that if it got as far as covering a semi final then it would be ITV's turn again as it was in 2018 (although IIRC ITV showed the Colombia R16 game and BBC the QF against Sweden).
I'd just rather that if England get to a semi final it would be a sufficiently important game that both channels could show it or preferably just the BBC. It might be slightly irrational but England's tournament record when exclusively on ITV is woeful. |  |

Interesting piece in the Grauniad about how few games the players in the Welsh squad played for their clubs last season and noting the team spirit.
