What an afternoon. We were excellent all over the pitch, the atmosphere inside the ground was brilliant, four good goals, just a beautiful day all round.
Odubajo - absolute banger of a goal, obviously, but there were also a few occasions in the first half when he made up for imperfect positioning with some serious pace. Very keen indeed to get him properly signed up.
Dickie, De Wijs & Barbet - the goal aside, all three looked very solid indeed. Dickie’s last-ditch tackle towards the end of the first half was superb, thought De Wijs made some excellent interceptions too. Feels like that setup is continuing to work really well.
Ball - we all know he’s a player with a very specific skillset, but I thought he was quietly excellent in the first half. Broke up play, recycled the ball, got forward, always available. This is someone who was bombed out of Rotherham 2 years ago, for goodness’ sake, outplaying Matic who cost United 40 million quid.
Dozzell - looked quality today. Composed on the ball, great range of passing, can get stuck in too. He’s clearly a transfer like Field or Amos where you’d hope to see them develop and improve but he looked very much at home already.
Willock & Chair - what can you say. If those two bring the same movement and passing into the season proper, they’re going to give Championship defences an absolutely terrifying time. Slick, high-tempo passing, beautiful movement, seemed to understand each other really well. Loved watching both of them, and just like with Matic they made Wan Bissaka look very ordinary indeed whenever they teamed up down the left
I thought Dykes took both goals brilliantly, as did Charlie, loved seeing Uncs getting applauded by the Ellerslie crowd when he came on, and Bettache, Duke-McKenna, Walsh and Kelman all had some really good moments when they came on, didn’t look out of place at all.
I know Man Utd mostly played youth teamers, but if a Championship side came here with Lingard, Greenwood, Mata, Matic, Tuanzebe and Williams in their squad we’d be expecting them to steamroller us. Important not to get carried away, but I feel like we’re putting down very promising foundations for the coming season.

Just watched the highlights and it struck me how confident and relaxed Dykes looked, particularly when taking his goals. He's learning and improving all the time.

His second was a very clever, composed and deliberate finish. There is a good player in there.
Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Our third goal will make the headlines...but it's the first and fourth that really interest me. The precision of / for Austin's header and the lovely curve for Dyke's second(no evidence of such control last season), bode well. See you in the Play Off's.

Yes, I never thought to see that sort of play from Dykes. If it's not a one-off then there's whole other side to his play that could make him a very effective all-round striker in the Les Ferdinand mould (I mean style of play, I'm not comparing on talent.)
Austin's movement to get into space and the quality of his header were excellent too but not really a surprise

Think it was Willock. If we had seen a Utd player do that and Lingard score then we wouldn't have heard the end of it.
Amazing what playing competitive football does for young players in their development.
Yeah definitely Willock.
He played so well yesterday. Possibly his best game for the Rs. If he can bring those sort of performances into next season he's going to make a real difference.

Fist-pumped by Jude the Cat on the walk up SA Road from White City tube.
No sign of Michael Gove.
Pre-match chips and a cold Guinness.
Seeing Dave Thomas selling printed AKUTRs (he looked knackered, hopefully did good business).
Soaking up the atmosphere.
The inevitable slyly whispered 'Tickets for the game?' from a bevy of shifty-looking characters (one of them could have been George Cole's grandson...)
Stefan Johansen announced before kick-off - his little daughter getting caught in the sprinklers.
The most enjoyable game I have seen in years.
Not a bad performance out there (though the sub keeper had me worried 2 or 3 times). They just playing as a TEAM with craft, effort and grit - and everyone just seems to get on so bloody well!
And Odubajo, what a guy... surely we'll sign him up?
Thought we'd fall apart with wholesale changes after we'd gone 4-1 up, but all who came on did great - I thought Kelman looked really strong and Duke-McKenna fast and fearless.
A happy ship.
Pissing down in Sussex this morning with black skies, thunder and lightning. But I'm still basking in yesterday's warm glow...
You beautiful RRRRRRs!
Oh, and I've just read a rumour that Eustace is staying - can things get any better!!??

Both goals excellent. For the first he could have lashed it but placed it. A bit lucky with the deflection but if you don't buy a ticket, you don't win the lottery. Second was real class. Turned the defender inside out, and then used the other defender to shield the shot from the keeper. Placement and curl superb.

I'm pretty sure the ball was going in even without a deflection.
