IF Derby go they will run League 2 with 23 teams.
It would require changes to the rules of the EFL to enable them to promote an extra club from League 2 & the National league.
They could, of course, fill a possible vacancy by reducing the number of clubs relegated, but Derby would have to be out of existence by the EFL AGM for this to be a consideration. I believe this has already been held. |
You are probably correct, I am too favourable to common sense.
Trust the EFL to ensure Derby is removed and no one else benefits when they could easily do so and it would help all the other clubs out as well and run a proper league and reward clubs who are not run into ruin |  |

Sheer and utter madness.
This is why we should’ve stuck our jaw out and not accepted our FFP punishment. The EFL are clueless and gutless unless you are Bury, Luton etc (ie one of the smaller clubs and/or potless); never thought they’d have the minerals to take us all the way.
The fixtures are due out this Thursday.
What happens then?
Other clubs need to plan their seasons, schedules need drawing up and all other manner of logistics resolved. For instance; what if other League One clubs operate away season ticket offers? One less away game means an admin nightmare in respect of refunds etc.
Also, will the EFL finance cash strapped clubs who will also have one less home game IF there’s no Derby to travel to them? Then consider also the cup competitions where bys will be required IF there’s one less club…. surely the FA, the Vanarama, the East Midllans Sunday Combination and Mutton Chops Chippy Five A Side Trophy won’t be happy with the situation???
I read that hard deadlines aren’t the answer but further debt is…. Hilarity. There simply has to be a wire as it’s not just Derby taking it to that it’s the knock on effect.
Last thing anyone who follows football wants is another club to go into Liquidation (unless they are from SW London or Luton) and I blame the EFL more and more in this sorry mess. They are not fit and proper to be presiding over all of us, they are fiddling (ahem) on the deck as the boat burns and with every passing deadline look weaker, and weaker and more clueless.

No one wants to see a 'big' club go under but maybe it has to happen so everyone else can wake yup to the fact that player salaries are totally unacceptable and are 99% the cause of the problem.
Punishing clubs like Bury does nothing. It's needs a Derby or QPR (god forbid) or Portsmouth etc. The PFA needs to reel it in too. At some point they have to accept that player salaries are totally out of proportion. One 3 year contract and you are made for life. It would take 216 years for someone on £25k a year to acquire the same amount. It makes a mockery of the whole "it's a short career" mantra, that's just bollox nowadays.

Whilst it obviously suited us in 2001, the bit I also never understand as an adult (I was 12 then) is how football clubs go into administration, but actually pretty much carry on trading as normal.
Any other business that goes into administration ceases trading straight away and the administrators are straight in sacking everyone and then doing their job, to realise all the available assets to satisfy the creditors, or find a buyer to do that, but not to continue trading.
Bearing in mind it is also an offence under the Companies Act to knowingly trade whilst insolvent.
Think of the recent high-profile administrations involving airlines - Monarch Airlines and Thomas Cook - both of them straight away grounded all planes in the air, cancelled all remaining flights, and everyone lost their jobs straight away. Websites offline - everything kaput.
Quite how football clubs aren't subject to that I'm really not sure. |  | | |
