I think Weller is a genius.... The quantity and quality of his songs spanning over 40 years is incredible

Referring back to my earlier post, there are a couple of Ed Sheeran tracks on my playlist. Same with Lady Gaga and I liked Whigfield's Saturday night. I find it easier to not be pre prejudiced against and artist/ genre so I don't miss out on a song I might otherwise enjoy. I am awaiting an Apache Indian/ Adele collaboration.

Most Overrated on 09:37 - Feb 9 by Ghost_on_the_Westway | It’s almost an annual thread but I’ll take any opportunity to call The Killers an over-rated pile of doggy poo when I can. |
I was staying with some of my in laws a couple of years ago and for "entertainment" they put on a Killers set from Glastonbury. They seemed to have zero songwriting or musical talent. It was just all about the visuals of the front man doing one rock pose after another after another. And then another "song". With rock poses. Then another..... Shockingly bad. 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Most Overrated on 09:40 - Feb 9 by MrSheen | My choice is Radiohead, not because I especially dislike them, but because of the bafflingly extreme adulation they provoke. I've got a friend who will move mountains to watch them absolutely anywhere, from Moscow to Melbourne, whatever the cost. |
Great call. Plus, they're like the Ajax of Music - alright lad, ye're good, but you didn't actually INVENT music, y'know!

"Camille Saint-Saëns" New to me, so I had to look him up. Have fallen in love with the first twenty seconds of 'The Carnival of the Animals'. Thank you.

I have to agree with PunteR. The thing is I love The Jam, The Style Council and also some of Weller's solo stuff. So it should be impossible to overrate him. Should. But the British Music Press have always managed to find a way. For decades, it seemed like every time I'd look at the Music section in a newsagent's either Mojo, Uncut or (nearly always) Q would have him on the cover. 'Paul Weller picks his nose, or his ten favourite bands (who've all worked with him and tell us he's great) or his ten favourite Paul Weller tunes etc etc....'

I saw The Killers at Wembley Stadium and they were great: must’ve been their biggest ever gig and they gave it everything. Saw them headline Glastonbury and the sound quality was awful which badly affected the performance. Their first two albums are filled with good songs although the quality dropped a lot on subsequent releases.

And this is purely based on his music, not on the dancing, showmanship, or all the other issues surrounding him.

Most Overrated on 10:12 - Feb 9 by dmm | Interesting comments re Queen to which I'd agree. I place them in the same 'Overproduced Pop Fluff' category as ABBA. Once Status Quo discovered people liked a cheesy rock 'n' roll riff that's all they did. They were seen as a bit of a joke after that. I and most people I knew would never listen to them. |
Queen - not my thing at all but some respect is due I think to the fact that they are the only band in history (other than the Beatles) in which all four members wrote a number one record. Agree on May's signature guitar riff though - a truly horrible din to my ear. Quo - bafflingly popular. For me, it was all downhill once Alan Lancaster left. His contributions, especially on the No 1 'Quo' album in 1973, were serious rock songs which stand up amongst the best of the time. [Post edited 10 Feb 2022 15:35]

You're more than welcome. Another of my playlists has Anne Murray singing The Teddy Bears Picnic and Humuhumunukunukuapua'a from the High School Musical 2 soundtrack but I fear it may be a stretch too far to expect you to thank me for introducing you to those. For me, I listen to whatever I feel in the mood for.
