Sorry to hear that wombat.
One of my pals lost his mum and last month his partner finished with him. It’s hit him hard and he’s withdrawn.
All he’s said to me is that he is sad all the time. Drinking each night to sleep etc.
I don’t know what to say or do. What is helping you wombat?

“Give it time mate” feels so empty.

Doesn’t help he’s a Liverpool fan just now either.

Sorry to hear that.

This may not help but under similar circumstances i took solace in the fact my mum was finally free of dementia.

All the best.

Would he talk to someone Sunny? If he's depressed it might do him good to chat with a counsellor.

If he won't do that, validate how he feels. Don't try and talk him out of it in the first instance. Cos let's face it, it's pretty rubbish what he's going through. Yes it's really awful and I'm not surprised you feel bad. Things will get better but it's really tough time now. I'm sorry you're having such a terrible time and I'm here as a listening ear. Then message him from time to time. Sadness is just a nature part of the grieving process but it will get better, he just needs time. Drinking isn't the answer, it'll make him feel worse in the long run.

Then when he's ready arrange some nights out that will cheer him up. Isolation will only make it worse.

Wombat, I’m sharing your pain at this time with the loss of my own Mum the other week. I will say it is bloody tough. She was also brought up in East Acton, Heathstan Road.

God bless you and may your Mum rest in peace.

Useful Nix.
He hasn’t said he’s depressed or suicidal.
Arranged a day out on a hill with him next month, getting him out the city feels right.
Appreciate you taking the time respond.

No worries. Just that sadness all the time, withdrawal and drinking could be signs of depression. Or he could just be grieving.

Taking him out sounds like a good plan. You're being a good mate being concerned about him.
