Bag of chips. 14:35 - Dec 6 with 5664 viewsSonofpugwash

Got mugged in Aberystwyth this morning.....£2.40 for a standard portion ffs. For that sort of money I want them encased in edible gold leaf.
What's the price like in your part of the world?

£3.50 at Burlingtons (Windmill Hill, Enfield). used to be great, now just OK though. tend to undercook their chips now.

I dont mind paying more if they are good. but i want crunchy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside.

they shouldn't stick together unless you have smothered them in vinegar or ketchup (i.e. you are aged 7)

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Ahahaha

Did EXACTLY the same thing when I was down there for work one glorious day in May.
Came out on the seafront and only just midday, but the sound of the gulls, the smell of the sea and chips wafting towards me and there was Harry’s right in front of me.

Stood and waited for what seems ages to actually get my grub and then noticed the price of the cans. “No drink thanks love”

I was staying in Brighton for work in July when I got nearly got fleeced at Ramsdens
but in fairness we found a lovely Irish pub and top bloke from Donegal who pulled us some glorious Guinness at just 4 quid a pint. Bargain !!
Best work away week ever . It averaged 32 degrees every day!

Same as Pukka Pies, eye wateringly expensive at the chippie so you get one from Morrisons at £1.50 pop it on the exhaust manifold of your motor and by the time you get your chips everything is piping hot.
(Can't do that with an electric car)

I almost feel like I should pick up the gauntlet and try to heat up a pie by putting it on my driver's seat of my electric car and whacking the heated seat up to maximum. It might work

I was at a local corner shop in Bracknell and remembered that I was running short of Bovril. Yes, I know a harrowing proposition. I found the Bovril but holy cow, it was £4.40 for a normal sized jar. It wasn't a Nebuchadnezzar of the stuff.

I put it back and tried again another day, this time at a medium-sized Tesco. The price? £4.40.

How I laughed

Bovril little known fact.

The old North Stand - where the Sandy Jardine Stand is now - at Ibrox Stadium was once called the Bovril Stand because of the large and distinctive advertisement displayed on its roof.

Thats pretty much been the price of a good quality free range Turkey for a few years. Mine last year was c£110 for 8kg from memory!

My local buther gets ours from https://www.salixfarmturkeys.c ,which funny enough is in Saffron Walden.

Simon James - What is it thought of locally? Had mine from there the last 6-7 years and been great.

Lived in Marylebone many moons ago, was my local chippy, queues were always a mile bloody long, plenty of peaked cap chaffeurs in the line, limos taking up the all the parking spaces on Lisson Grove as well, seems the gentry favoured food of the 'hoi poloi' Friday nights as well.

Back then was a excellent place and always a bit more expensive than a local chippy.

I really wouldn't expose any comestible to the passenger's seat given what Top Gear found to be lurking thereupon - "Lady Juice" being a prominent "contaminant".

Don't call it the Cost of Living Crisis call it what it really is the ... Cost of Surviving Crisis!

Chips going up so much is an outrage to Britishness. We need to send in the SAS now!

Large portion is £2.50 at Five Star Fish Bar in Walthamstow. Already comfortably feeds two, but as I've been going for years he always throws a few extra in "to make sure your wife gets some!". I laugh, before I go home and eat it on my own

We can all agree that Ocean Billy's (or whatever it's called now) is the worst fish and chips in London right?

If that's the case then I'm surprised Billy Ocean hasn't sued for defamation.
