When finals, especially World Cup finals, go to penalties it’s usually because it’s been a tight, conservative and ofter dour game. Not this one.
Pretty much all Argentina for 80 minutes then two France goals in two minutes. Suddenly it was fairly even for the next 40 minutes and the 2nd period of extra time was end-to-end with both teams desperate to win it before pens.
Mbappe scores a hat-trick, two pens, but still ends up on the losing side. Still, having won it once already and more tournaments to come I’m not that sad for him.
Great final but will no doubt be used to sweep under the carpet an awful lot of controversies before and during the tournament. |  | | |

I haven't watched much of the World Cup but have watched the final. Wow, what an unbelievable game.
Actually for 80 minutes it was fairly run of the mill, France were poor and never looked like being in it. Argentina's second goal was an amazing counter attacking goal, but once the French got one back...just edge of the seat stuff for 40 minutes. Incredible.
I'm actually pleased Argentina won because of Messi - he deserves that and I think that makes him the greatest of all time in my view. And it should finally put to bed all the arguments about whether Ronaldo or Messi is better - especially after Cristiano's recent histrionics.
