The World Cup final. 18:49 - Dec 17 with 18119 viewsMick_S

Anyone else not realise kick off is at 3:00 and has booked in for work tomorrow? I just assumed it would be an early evening start. I’m Tim Sherwood, I am.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Argentina deserved it, France's luck finally ran out in the shoot out.

The scenes from Buenos Aires is unreal.

Gonna be a child birth spike next September me thinks!

Pleased for Messi and it indeed makes him the more complete player than Ronaldo, who has now gone to find a tunnel somewhere to walk down and cry.

I haven't watched much of the World Cup but have watched the final. Wow, what an unbelievable game.

Actually for 80 minutes it was fairly run of the mill, France were poor and never looked like being in it. Argentina's second goal was an amazing counter attacking goal, but once the French got one back...just edge of the seat stuff for 40 minutes. Incredible.

I'm actually pleased Argentina won because of Messi - he deserves that and I think that makes him the greatest of all time in my view. And it should finally put to bed all the arguments about whether Ronaldo or Messi is better - especially after Cristiano's recent histrionics.

As Fergie said, football eh, bloody hell.

To be fair to Ronaldo, I believe Messi plays for a better team so his chances of winning the world Cup were always greater. Look at how many World cups Argentina have won and Copa America's compared to Portugal in world cups and Euro's. It is rather like comparing Argentina with England as we are similar to Portugal when it comes to winning trophies.

George Best was brilliant but never going to be a world Cup winner. Even if Messi was not a winner today he would still be one of the all time greats.

Best World Cup final I've seen in 75 years on this planet.
A throbbing,pulsating creampie of a final.

The Messi vs Ronaldo debate was always daft as it’s not particularly close. The real debate is Messi vs Maradona and the former edges it imo for his longevity.

Argentina deserved it I think, although they are a difficult team to like. 4 finals in the last 24 years, 2 won and 2 lost on penalties, I'm not complaining :) As far as I'm concerned, on penalties that star is shared

Never heard of Kolo Muani before the Morocco game, but with him MBappe, Camavinga, Upamecano and a few more, exciting tilmes ahead

And we won yesterday

Yeah, fair point about Messi playing for a nation more likely to win it but the two players were always being compared despite playing for clubs of varying abilities (all top rated clubs) so once you start making comparisons you have to keep it going :)

A cup final almost, but not quite, as great as the 1967 league cup final.

Worth googling Maradona' Top 20 lobbed goals, few amazing strikes with his 'weaker' right foot, headed lob, halfway line effort, corners, the lot.

Messi may have longevity but not sure he would have survived this long with the likes of Fenwick + Butcher kicking lumps out of him week in week out with refs waving play-on.

Been a great World Cup, and a final to match it.

Totally agree. I said before it started that the one good thing about playing a tournament mid season would be the players are likely to be fitter, in form and not knackered after a long season. After this dare I say the world Cup should now be played mid season and not in June when players burnt out?

Total convert to winter World Cups. Something to do on cold and dark winter days, but would hold it Jan/Feb like Afcon after a NY break.

Saudi Arabia / Israel 2030 will have to be held in winter if they win it.

Can't believe these cųnty pundits are laughing at Martinez's antics and shíthousery to put players off in the biggest of games.

Football really needs to crack down on on highly paid sportsmen being cųnts and playing in the most unsporting of ways....boils my píss.

I cannot stand all the BS that goes into penalty shootouts aside from the actual kicks.
But Martinez saved Argentina in extra time of extra time with that incredible reaction save.It was the biggest moment today IMO.
I think the french manager made a mistake taking off those strikers and Griesman surely he figured it might come down to it.
Experience is massive in PKs and France did not have the shooters .
What a game though amazing

An incredible game. Everything there. Argentina won it three times, thought they were absolutely dead on 85 mins.

Shout out for the referee too, contributed to the whole thing, a full Clattenburg play off semi final of a performance for a big occasion.

Agree with that. It's sad that Lloris should be perceived as naive for not behaving like a prick in the penalty shoot-out and putting the Argentinian players off more.

That said, the French players looked badly prepared for the penalty shoot out.

I like the way the French played in the last 10 minutes of normal time and during extra-time.

Those were good substitutions by Deschamps at half-time and then later in the second half. I'm glad he hooked Griezmann if only to silence Jenas and Mowbray on the BBC and then Matterface and Dixon when I switched to ITV because the former were boiling my piss.

The two teams that the Argies struggled with were both from Asia. Saudis beat them and the Aussies pushed them all the way in the knockout round.

Poll: Where will we finish up next season?

The best final i've ever seen. It had literally everything except red cards thankfully. Joy to watch. The ceremony afterwards, dressing Messi up in a robe etc was utterly pathetic.

Towed behind a LNG tanker. Easy.
