...English.

I've probably had to explain something or be informed that a certain term or saying is 'quaint, unusual, or simply something from a Dickens novel, every couple of months I've lived in this country.
I've had two in the last couple of days
A/ Early doors (huh?).
B/ Mustn't grumble (quaint).

Any others?

Gerrtcha, of Chas and Dave fame.

Got this shouted at me as a kid a lot and now mutter it to myself when confronted with bad Tube etiquette or cycles that ignore red lights.

What’s it’s all about though?

Thing is the art of conversing seems to have passed them by here.
If you say something the reply back is either a solution, a platitude or
a spin.

Conversation stopped, killed, ground to a halt. Kaput

Phuck my old boots, Play the white man, Only one sub allowed- and that’s only ok for an injury, you can’t pass the ball back to the goalkeeper. Ball must travel its circumference forward at a kick off. Three Bob admission to stand on the first crash barrier on the half way line, a Bob for a programme and a tanner for a pack of Percy Daltons, and music played at half time available from WG Stores on Shepherds Bush Market and ….. we always win at home, don’t we?

FMOB - do me a favour, it’s football on a different planet now! Bring back English in the sixties!

Similar experience with a flatmate when I was living in Atlanta.

Although he grasped the basic application and when to correctly use the 'dog's bollox', he got confused when we were out one night and met some English guys, with the derivatives: 'mutt's nuts', 'dog's danglies', 'the mutt's' and 'the dog's'.

Oh yeah, just remembered one from 30 years ago - try explaining to your average American the northern (reet lanky), 'I'll go to the foot of our stairs'.
