Hamer Post Match - didn't know new rule 21:54 - Nov 8 with 7756 viewsOldPedro

Apologies if already posted elsewhere, but in his post match interview, Ben Hamer said he didn't know about the change to the 6 second rule (now 8 seconds) which is why he gave away the corner early on.

I find it baffling that he didn't know!

Thought he played pretty well otherwise.

For God Sake, Hamer got a clean sheet , how many debutant keeper can claim that?

You lot are hard to please!

Well, apparently JS is pleased with a point, most of the performance, and 'keeping them 9 points behind us' against a side one off the bottom - even if 3-1 would have been a fair result on chances created. That's us doing well these days, apparently.

Poll: What do you expect from the Charlton game?

Just emphasizes that players and pundits don’t know the rules.

+ coaches it seems…..otherwise they’d also have told him, right ?

‘I’m not used to kicking from hand’

‘I was a little rusty at first…’

My word, there’s a long list of issues that relate to a complete lack of prep and thought ahead of that selection.

Luckily, he did very well regardless and kept a clean sheet. Kudos to him but the club should be doing better for all concerned.

His question to Cook on the pitch about what was going on with the awarded corner was comedy gold / if you are into that type of dark humour.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Refreshingly honest of him to admit it, but what does this say about his and the management team’s preparation.

It seems the decision to play him was relatively late but on balance a very good one. You’re gonna expect somewhat of a bombardment from a team managed by Wilder and they had 14 (fourteen) corners! How do we think Nardi would have coped with that?

Or, it might be someone who has just had a busy - and bloody successful - 90 minutes, is tired, talking shit about an embarrassing moment when he has a mic stuck in his face.

Poll: Do we need another Eze thread

I suspect our coaches went through rules changes for this season with the entire squad before the season started, which would have included the change for the 8 second rule.

Hamer signed for us after the season started, so he has probably not had that session with us. From a coaching perspective I think it's fair to assume he would know this, it's not some hidden away rule, especially for keepers, and it's happened the game before when he was sub....

That said, by all accounts he had a good game and debut tomorrow, so hopefully that will bcome the main focus. I think we'll all take a good performance on the pitch with a 'mistake' in the post match interview vs the other way round.

Poll: Will we stay up?

It’s not good though, is it Gaz? Professional football club. Support staff coming out of our ears. Data and analytics recruitment, and we end up being a keeper out of retirement who freely admits he doesn’t know the rules.

No it isn't Norf......but stop passing the buck to support staff or whoever. You are a goalkeeper and an experienced one although old but he should know the rules of his job ffs. I knew what to do when I took throw ins, I knew my personal job..........the keeper should know his job and not need support staff to tell him. Next think the players will not know how to tie their boot laces up and want support staff or apprentices to do it. It's rubbish mate, take a bit of responsibility!!!!

you'd think that he must have been involved in some training games, etc, where they try and replicate similarish conditions to a match day,,, 11 aside, same rules.. or even training drills on quick distribution where it will be mentioned, find it hard to believe, but guess he knows now, and didn't cost us, so nothing lost. He came across well otherwise

It's a matter of training.

Bad management assumes that people know how to to do their jobs, good management ensures that people know how to do their jobs.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Don't care, came off his line loads, cleaned everyone out when he did a couple of times, commanded the box while our defenders tried their best not to win a header, a couple of good saves.

Have to agree here this keeper was the difference between a point and another loss in a miserable week for QPR land .
They had so many corners and long throws into our box it was just another and for the most part we defended them will but still lucky to get a draw IMO.
Going forward we are a shell of the team from October and if you cannot score you cannot win .
A couple of the last International windows has interrupted a decent run for us this one is welcome I feel

In the clubs defence the Head of Goalkicks doesn't work on Saturdays so he wasn't around to tell him

tbs I did not know the rule until Wednesday when it was the first time Ive seen it implemented and then again today. Seen plenty of games this season when the ball has been in the keepers hands longer than that so maybe this some form of crack down

Ha! Do we have a Head of Long Throws because (i) Mbengue doesn't know those rules, (ii) we create zero danger with them even though we do them on every possible opportunity, (iii) Cook ended up taking them - surely you need one of your biggest blokes and best headers of the ball in the box? and (iv) my God they are boring, we can only ever reach the near post so it is the same thing over and over and over and over again.

Indeed. Also we are talking about TWO SECONDS, so not exactly a precise science unless the ref has some fancy alarm telling him when the time has elapsed

I think we really have bigger things to worry about than a faux pas from a keeper who otherwise had a very good game, which seems to be treated on here as a symptom of the club disintegrating before our eyes.

As for stating "you couldn't make it up", if you couldn't make up a scenario where a keeper forgets a new rule, then you haven't got much imagination tbh.

it's not a new rule though, this 6 second thing has been in place for years refs just ignore it, the only change is they give a corner now rather than just book them.

Not quite the only change dave. The referee shouts to the 'keeper after 5 seconds so that he knows he has to release the ball.

What I doubt is widely known, is that the 8 seconds only start when the 'keeper is unopposed, rather than from the moment the ball is in their hands.
