Was quite rightly mocked for suggesting Dunne to a parachute club or an idiot Championship big-spender for £7m+ this summer could happen now we've signed Edwards.
However, he was a stand-out yesterday, clearly our fittest player, a rock one end, a nuisance at the other. So I'm going to revise that and predict Jimmy Dunne to a parachute or idiot club in the summer for at least what we've spent on Edwards. I reckon it'll be West Ham.
There's a much-liked thread on X from a West Ham fan saying they should sign him - "proper CB" - and threads on their messageboards saying the same. They're not really coveting any other QPR player. 28, they could get four good years out of him, more maybe...go on!

This. I thought he was at fault for second as well but on review it was a wonderful piece of skill by Summerville. Dunne had a very good game though overall and saved us a couple of times with last ditch stops. Top lad | | | |

He was for the second but in his defence he'd been under the pump for almost 100 minutes, and it really was quite an exquisite piece of skill [Post edited 12 Jan 16:53]

Harsh. Cook's misses the header, Dunne is subsequently turned and then overloaded on our right - where have I heard that tune before? - and Walsh beaten near post.
I think if you add all together probably four QPR players at fault there, one of which is Dunne. Not sure his error the worst though. Goal is here...

Yes Cook made the first mistake, but to my eyes at the time, and the replay doesn't make me change my mind, the ball was Jimmy's and had he led with his left he could have cleared up the mess...instead he got rolled by 'Tatty'. | | | |

Sometimes goals can be scored without blame being apportioned to a player or players from the opposition. That piece of skill from Sommeville was a moment of premier league brilliance, which was executed at lightning speed and culminated in a precise cross being delivered too.
It would have wrong-footed many a defender and I cannot find fault with any of our defenders for that goal. [Post edited 12 Jan 17:12]

Agree. Quite hard to be to down on Dunne being turned out wide by £25m Summerville, the game's best attacker, 98 minutes into a game's he's been everywhere in. He's only out there because his RB can no longer run and will be off the pitch in the next minute, so Dunne ran over to cover as Mbengue tried to hop along...
Not sure Field defended the cross properly either, his body shape was wrong. But sometimes you just have to say it was a great bit of skill. Nobody was running that dynamically and hitting a cross like that. | | | |

Cook was immense & got turned for the 1st goal by quality from a premier league level player,
Dunne got similarly turned for the 1st when the forward very cutely blocked him off, then got done by an outrageous piece of skill for the 2nd, these thing happen when you play against £10-30m opposition players
Walsh was superb and I would argue was unfortunate not to save the 1st goal with how quickly he came off his line & bravely tried to make the save,
All 3 were immense yesterday & we are very fortunate to have them play for our club.
If you want to watch players who never make a mistake or get beaten by a better quality player, you're surely better off being a fan of a club with an unlimited budget like Real Madrid. | | | |

It was a great bit of skill for the second from an elite Championship / potentially decent Prem winger. Dragged out wide because Mbengue died about two minutes earlier.
The first is far more frustrating. Kick someone if you have to and take the card but can’t have both CBs losing challenges like that. Mentally switched off perhaps thinking the job was done. [Post edited 12 Jan 17:16]

If I were a Hammers fan, and notwithstanding premier league defenders are likely to be a cut above their championship cousins, I'd be asking why isnt he and/or Wham getting him to play like that week-in, week-out.
With him and Bowen, surely they've got some ammo to play with.

In response to the op, Dunne will never go anywhere for £7 million at 28. We got Edwards for £4.5 million and he is 22.
He is too slow for the Premier League also. He had a brilliant game though. Would think he is ours for as long as he is fit and healthy and still able to maintain his form.

I thought the game showed more than usual that Dunne is an average Championship defender, nothing more or less than that, and that is fine. We are an average Championship club, we need players like that. He won't be going anywhere because there won't be a huge amount of demand, he is capable of understanding and setting standards, it is why players like him and Sam Field are necessary while we are bringing through the younger players and hopefully moving up to the next levels. The fact he is a talker, can organise, will put his head on the line means that his mistakes are often overlooked way more than other players, again I think this is fine. You do need players like him in this division and you can't underestimate the leadership side of it. But he won't be anything more than this. [Post edited 13 Jan 8:58]

Interesting that in many of the posts on this thread there is the use of the word “fault”.
Yes he got skinned, by a very talented attacking player. How often do we see flashes of great play by premier league players against other premier league players and the attacking player is lauded for how good they are.
From my perspective for their second goal, yes our Championship standard, 6’4 CB with 2 dodgy hips who often struggles against nippy wingers in the Championship got skinned by a Prem player. Why does it have to be his fault, especially as he got pulled out wider due to other players not stopping the attack earlier?
Sometimes your opponent merely has better players who can produce these flashes more consistently.
Same with Walsh, he wasn’t at fault for either goal, in the same way Murphy Cooper could not be blamed for any of the 4 goals he let in last night against Liverpool. |  |
