If we can't purchase a decent sub 30's goalkeeper prospect then I would absolutely do a loan there and have said as much.

I'm not sure about Pierce Charles, but a Vitek, Rushworth, Pattison type I'd be well up for, yes. In the same way I was very in favour of RND rather than persevering with the ridiculous notion Esquerdinha was a valid option for us. Particularly as we've let our experience bleed out, largely.

One, or two, strategic loans, very good, very valuable.

But that year under Beale we had Laird, Roberts, Iroegbunam, Richards and Lowe. And once the going got tough none of them really gave a sht, did they?

If you're running your maximum five loans then either that's done in January to get you out of some sht you created for yourself, or it's to get you up. Otherwise, what's the point?

Carl Rushworth was not even a "Rushworth type" when Coventry signed him on loan. He'd had a great season on loan at Swansea 23-24, but the season before he joined Cov, he played twice for Hull on loan before being sent back. Last season made him. He hadn't played in a year.

Not sure what the difference between Vitek going to Bristol City last season after a few dozen loan games for Accrington and in Austria at 21 and Charles coming to QPR at 21 (other than Vitek is massive, which is definitely in his favour).

I dunno. I'm not really that bothered about Charles, but he's got a very good reputation, his distribution looks brilliant and I am open-minded about him being a loan. We had Nardi in his final year, Hamer on short-term contract last season so not sure there's much difference.

Respect your PTSD about Beale's loans but we've had good ones since, Saito and Edwards for example. If this allows investment in other positions, I'm fine with it. Suspect this season requires a bit more market compromise than last.

Walsh or Cooper won't get us relegated on their own.

I assume the majority of us believe QPR will finish between 7th and 21st?

Assuming that is the thought of the board too, we should be playing our own while there is no jeopardy, at the very least to enhance a reputation as a development club to parents of aspirational players.

We're not running a soft play here.
If we're not aiming for seventh or eighth this season then I'm confused.

Coventry and Ipswich have gone, been replaced by three fcktastrophes. Burnley still haven't got a manager.
Last year Wrexham and Birmingham came up, this year it's Bolton, Cardiff and Lincoln City.
It's Nourry's fourth year.
It's Stephan's second - year of Championship under his belt.
We've got two great strikers.
Lots of Vale, Madsen, Varane, Saito, Edwards types who we've invested loads of money in and are supposedly fan-fcking-tastic are coming into year two or three now (i.e. pis or get off the pot time)
We need a GK, CM and LB, one of which we've bought already, one of which is in plentiful cheap supply.
We should not have the injury problems of the last two years.
You get in the play-offs for finishing eighth.

This is go year. Not promotion, we've got very little chance of that, but should be clear strides forwards. Top half of the table at least.

Honestly, if we're all fine finishing 15th again as long as Murphy Cooper gets to play with the other little boys then what are we doing here?

As Hunter says, the club rhetoric has been to favour our own players development.

But you still have to prepare players for the challenge.

Walsh was thrown in at the deep end last season. That was bad management of his development by the club. He should have been given the opportunity of a lengthy loan in League 1 first.

Charles I think is a bit small, and I worry about his injuries and operations last year. I do also like a loan where there's some hope of signing them permanently.

But we're agreeing mate, I agree with that post.

Correct. Agree. BUT, if you’re running a player trading model, and one of your loanees is a youngster, not an experienced pro to help develop the young players you actually own and are looking to sell, then it seems a bit incongruent, does it not? I’m also conscious of what Nourry has said on loanees on the past, which I completely agree with him on. Bringing in PC would be a departure from previous rhetoric. Not that he might not be excellent.

He did say that about not taking loans. But he's signed four players on loan in the last couple seasons all the same, so who knows. Actions speaking louder than words and all that.

This conversation is reminiscent to the conversation about signing Ronnie Edwards on loan. I feel like there was handwringing about that halting the progress of Liam Morrison, who had just returned from injury. But maybe I'm misremembering that (maybe I said it even).

I know this is sliding off topic, but hey.

I don't get this Pollyanaish belief in our potential for next season that you and Hunter share.

- We have no GK
- A gaping hole where our centre midfield should be
- A RB who was signed as a CB and can't seem to cross a ball
- A LB who has never played in this country and who also didn't get many assists last season
- A near unhealthy obsession with young boys (you win nothing with kids!!)
- Probably not much money to spend, so we may need to sell one of those great strikers

On top of all that we have a CEO who has persistently pushed a possession based game we obviously can't handle.

I don't think we're ready for a top eight push yet. But that doesn't mean that I'm content to sit in 15th-18th forever more.

We're moving in the right direction, but some things can't be rushed.

You mentioned earlier that you have PTSD about the Beale squad. Well that all came about from us going all-in for Warburton's final season. And I have greater PTSD about that than the Beale and his young boys experiment.

I will be happy to be proven wrong but I think we are well short of a top eight push this season.

I'm with you.

But you only have to finish eighth next season, and that's all I'm talking about. Not a promotion, push, not a top six push, just can we try and finish eighth? Show a bit of ambition, willing and progress?

Blackburn, universally seen as one of this division's worst run clubs, have managed that in three of the last five seasons.

I get that.

And I really would be happy to be proven wrong.

I just don't see that we're ready yet.

Nourry getting decent money for a couple of our better players and reinvesting in some decent replacements would be a step forward for me at this point, even if it blunted our chances of a top eight spot.

Also agree. If Kone was to move for a good fee for example, then I would downgrade my expectations, but also see that as good progress.

And then again if we sold Madsen while his stock is high but fail to replace his qualities adequately, we would also have the potential to lmprove the revenue at the expense of improved results and league position.

Progress ?

The protracted discussion around keepers has got me wondering about Tylon Smith and Timothy Akindileni and how the club handles their development.

Akindileni spent some time on loan last season, but Smith didn't. Will one or both be included in the first team squad, the DS or get loaned out this season?

It looks like a similar situation to Walsh and Cooper. They're probably not quite ready for the Championship and need loans out to continue their development.

Sky Sports reporting we have interest in Jerome Prior. 30 year old Livingston keeper. Number one or backup who knows, never heard of the bloke.

Am I alone in wondering what the hell is going on with Cooper?

24 years old, same age as Walsh and young for a keeper. Around 80 appearances in the Championship, L1 and L2. Consecutive loans with good reviews from those loans and each loan a step up. Isn't this the fabled development path for players, so that then integrate them in the team? And yet it seems we're about to offload him, I'm guessing permanently, having made the decision this week about 18 months too late to finally give Walsh a loan. As a result rumours are flying on us enquiring about a wide range of keepers from all over the place of varying ages, some permanent, some loan. Is there something wrong with Cooper we don't know about? (I'm not buying the "short" thing BTW, I think Cooper is 6'1, when Nardi was only 6'2 and you have keepers at top levels like Raya who are only 6'). I would have thought the natural move is to have Cooper competing as one of two potential starting keepers this season (maybe alongside another freebee) and focus our limited budget on sorting out other stuff like CM and a spare CB. But apparently it isn't.

The GK thing has been horrifically handled over the last 18 months.

And Hull got promoted!

I'm not saying we will or should, or that we'll even finish in the top six, but they were ropey and even we got 6 points off them.

Suffering since 1978.

My guess is they don’t fancy him and he’ll go if/when we sign someone better with Salomon on the bench.

I thought that last season was a wasted top ten shout because of the injury disaster.

This season, with a left back (done), midfielder x 2 (harder), high quality goalkeeper (imminent) and 50% better availability it's gotta be top eight. Kone and Burrell surely have 15 goals in them each, with two decent replacements behind them, which alone gives QPR a puncher's chance. I also believe in the Return of Chair.

Top ten is the base line. Let's get these two or three in, and let's go. The only things that can fail it are injuries and a philosophical belief that some of the U23 understudies are more ready than they really are, but let's keep everyone fitter and let's go.

Well, no, you have to spend the money on three or four similar prospects and hope two of them become good first team players and one of them becomes the next big sellable asset. That's how this is meant to work. Lather, rinse, repeat.

It's what we failed to do in the Warburton years.

If we had sold Dickie, Dieng, and Willock when their value was high and reinvested well (always the hardest part to get right) we could have spared ourselves a lot of the financial grief we had over the last few years and probably be in a stronger overall position now.

It's what Millwall has done in recent years, and it didn't stop them reaching the playoffs last season, and I am sure they will be fancied for another playoff push this season.

Brighton and Brentford did it before them.

It's a long hard road with no guarantees. But I think it gives us a better chance than going all-in every time we get a couple of decent players and hoping that the gods will smile on us this time.

Neither of those lads are anywhere near ready for Championship football. It would be a mistake not to send them out of loan - and proof that we'd learned nothing from mishandling the development of Joe Walsh and the inflated view of Esquerdinha.

agree neither are good enough now or maybe never will be , issue is that leaves us with even more players to come in because we went the kiddy dev route and didnt give them decent loans to see if they was any good . clark salter will be a distant memory come oct leaves us with dunne morrison as our main centerbac pairing , cant use field as well hes been sold

hearing esquedina is on his was also from the club this rumour was going around earlier in the season but seems to be true , so thats boy and larcache as left backs this season .
