His defending for Blackburn’s chances in the first half would have shamed a Sunday league full-back. I totally get what he brings to the team when he’s good and can imagine he’s a very popular character behind the scenes but still think he’s a liability as much as an asset. Definitely a more complete player than the one we signed but a weak link I’d be targeting as an opposing manager.

I see it that mbengue were pretty much where he should be. covering the space behind centrebacks and not giving Blackburn player a clear sight to goal from more centre and WHO should have taken the space behind mbengue where either our rwb or dm. Both nowhere close.

There are some problems with the suggestion that "Rangers are considering a loan to AIK in Sweden".
The season in Sweden finishes in November & they have only 12 league games left. More importantly, according to Wiki, the mid season transfer window in Sweden closed on the 11th August.
That doesn't rule out a loan elsewhere though.
Sorry, I've just noticed that Wiki was quoting the transfer window closure for 2023 rather than this year!

Agreed. I like him but from what I saw of the extended highlights his defending was really bad. The attempt from Cantwell around the 50 second mark, Cantwell crossed the path of Mbengue, a player with intelligent awareness would have picked him up but Mbengue just left him. Then around the 1:40 mark, not only was he not marking Cantwell but he was so flat footed in his own box that he couldn't anticipate the ball coming near him and being able to clear the ball. Both times Dunne correctly ripped into him.

I think there’s a need to just keep the DS going with bodies. Having lost Pearman, Sanyaolo, Adjetey Brew, Bennie, Leahy, Wilkie, McDowell and Tylon Smith these new players at least serve a very basic requirement. I’m sure there’s very little expectation that they’ll amount to anything as they’ve already been released by another Championship club but it keeps our reserve squad ticking over. Harsh but probably true.

This is probably true, but I think this is another reason why the DS league us not fit for purpose and something like the football combination league should return.
Any decent young players could play alongside and against men whilst having a separate U18 league. Then there wouldn't be much need to loan out promising young players for a season when they might need to be selected in an injury crises in November or March.

I just re watched the highlights, and yes, on both of those Cantwell chances Mbenge lost him and Dunne (as any decent captain or teammate should) let him know what he thought of his attempts at defending.
Mbenge does tend to lose his concentration and this needs to be addressed, other than that he is a good defender to have and his speed is needed in the QPR defence.

Half of it is communication. Someone who sees it should be shouting at Edwards that Cantwell is running off him on his blindside and also someone needs to call out Cantwell is back post to Mbengue. Hopefully covered in the post game meeting.

Sorry, I have to disagree slightly here. Edwards is in his position as a CDM.
When the cross came in the ball landed exactly where you expect your right back to be. Our right back was unfortunately missing. I don't believe in this instance that Edwards didn't track his player, Cantwell ran behind him. Mbengue not only had full sight of Cantwell but was also not in the position he should have been in.
Anyway, they didn't score so not worth picking it too much apart. He's now our 2nd choice right back and I am happy with that. He's a good squad player.

I hope so, decent player when fit but only been available for 20% of games since he joined. We have 4 other CB's.
we all know JCS is like a unexploded bomb , you just dont know when its likely go off its a shame as when hes fit hes a stand out player but we all know we just cant rely on him , it might mean varanne is off though and ronnie is stepping into CDM instead , we are still one player short in the middle id say esp wioth madson having a niggling injury right now

agree he does have something about him but a loan till jan would help him learn the dark arts needed to push on, hes a better technical player than varanne likes to get forward as well
