1. Shane Long got the best reception I have seen from the crowd in the Fan Zone, which probably tells you about the demographics of those who go in their, it was far better than the likes of David Peach & Steve Williams for instance.
2. Cameron Archer made a massive contribution last night and should get some plaudits for that, he will offer options in the next month or so.
3. The atmosphere was terrible, at times you could hear a pin drop, what is the point of going to a game if you aren't going to offer some sort of encouragement, even just a "Come on Saints" every 10 minutes would be better than just sitting and watching, at times it was like being sat in a cinema.

The quality of stewarding is appalling, half of them have no idea of the section of the ground they are stewarding, what the seat numbers are etc and in which direction, all they do is block the exits and walk up and down the steps every 10 mins, thus blocking the view of those trying to watch the game.
5. Why are there so many taxis in Southampton that are Toyotas, its become a lucky omen to count them between St Mary's Leisure centre & the Railway footbridge on Northam Road, last night it was a record 18 |  |

Fans sense what's needed and last night that was a routine victory with minimum fuss and as little energy expended as possible. The time to drive the team on to leave it all out there on the pitch, as they battle for victory, will be against Ipswich and, of course, the play offs.
The last thing the Saints players needed last night, especially once they were in the lead and the heat had been taken out of the game, was for the crowd to bring the game back to life, the tension and pace to be increased and Blackburn stirred to keep fighting for a result.

It is really interesting that against Arsenal, so many people around me (middle aged men) people I had never seen before, were really roaring on Saints loudly. Stood up, properly passionate, really loud and hyped up.
Then last night, apart from the usual few who try to get an atmosphere going but then give up, people just sat there in silence. They don't even move, they look half dead some of them. Where did all those ferociously passionate fans from the Arsenal game disappear to? I agree, the atmosphere at times was terrible for a team on the verge of automatic promotion, almost embarrassing. As Nick said, you really could hear a pin drop at times, this in the stadium of a team unbeaten in 18 and were 2 nil up.
Are people so worn out from.work during the day that they can hardly move or just totally miserable? Well done to the Chapel for starting an OWTS chant though that I heard at the other end. It doesn't help having so many empty seats. It really dilutes the atmosphere and Saints need to get creative with this, to get more people in. And it doesn't help that nearly every game is.live on tv! | |

It's probably a different fan base - the season ticket holders are probably in the main a bit more weathered in having seen it all before. The Arsenal game went to a general sale so the 'event' fans turned up ready to have a 'big' night out.
The home West Brom Semi Final in the playoffs was similar - completely different from a normal West Brom game in the regular season.
It would take a lot of effort for a club the size of Saints with relative little history of success in football competitions to convert big event fans into regular season ticket holders. I am with Nick on this. There are times when people just sit there in silence. That is not support. The team at the moment deserve our support. If you want to just sit in silence, you might as well stay at home and watch it on tv. Read the Ipswich forum, to find out just how intimidating and loud Fratton Park was the other night, with fans clamberouring over the advertising boards etc and all 3 sides singing passionately, showing their missing front teeth.
Not to forget that we have produced some incredible atmospheres at St Mary's (West Brom, Arsenal), and I know at Wembley and away games we will be loud and proud with sold out followings, but then in other games you can hear a pin drop in other big games. So what that it was Blackburn on a rainy night? This moment, this team deserves a 12th man. Stop making excuses and sing for this moment of "success". Roar Saints on to promotion and FA cup glory. We all want a loud, encouraging crowd don't we? It annoys me too, when we are playing so well, on the verge of promotion, and some people sit there looking like they are watching an episode of the antiques roadshow. [Post edited 17 Apr 11:15]

I got fed up of being surrounded by people who were more interested in being on their phones than supporting the team.
I have moved to the back of the Chapel, and I know many will say "we can't hear the Chapel".
I am however in a group of 20 or so like-minded souls at the back of Blocks 20 and 21 who will basically sing all game, and don't piss about on phones.
For the Arsenal game, quite a few others joined in with us, but that was a fairly exceptional game.
As Frannies Tache has said on here, it is going to take time to evolve, probably a year or two. Though that is part of the fun watching it grow.
But I do get a feeling of excitement in there that it could be like the Itchen North was pre-COVID, which was just a brilliant place to be. |  |

Yeah that's how i see it, the northam are the modern milton muppets and the chapel lot are more of the old east stand benches types, not sure where you'd place the west stand benches casuals lot these days as i don't think something like that really exists anymore.
And you're right i was Perry, had a column in the paper version of the ugly called Perry on the left wing. Always had a lot of time for Perry, really good bloke & had many a chat with him at games, on the doors of pubs (mainly the hobbit) and at the taxi ranks | | | |
